Brain fog is not always a focus problem. Sometimes it's a resource problem.

We're supposed to use our mental energy throughout the day. Think. Learn. Solve problems. Navigate relationships.

But we're also supposed to replenish those resources.

The sun goes up. The sun goes down.

Activity and recovery tend to work best together.

When one side consistently outweighs the other, people often start noticing the effects in their energy, attention, and cognitive performance.

A lot of people think recovery ends when treatment ends.

In clinic, we often see recovery continue long afterward. Sleep. Digestion. Energy. Appetite. Nervous system stability.

A lot of people are still rebuilding long after treatment ends.

Support matters before, during, and after treatment. –

Most people think brain health starts with memory loss. It usually starts much earlier.

Sleep, stress, inflammation, blood sugar balance, sense of smell, being able to stand on one foot, movement, and connection all shape how the brain functions over time.

The brain listens to how we live. Small daily patterns matter more than most people think.

Oscar wild harvesting sassafras. Shortly after, a man on the side of the road was holding a sign that said, “Anything helps.”

He asked Oscar for spare change.

Oscar said, “All I’ve got is sassafras leaves. Want some?”

He did.

Maybe healing starts smaller than we think. One conversation. One plant. One moment of being seen.

Who knows. He may have met a future herbalist that day 🍃❤️

If you’re relying on one thing, you’re missing the system.

Real care is layered. Lifestyle, nutrition, herbs, and data all working together.

Medicines from the Earth is one of my favorite places to retreat to, reconnect, & learn.

I enjoyed this presentation from one of my mentors, Donnie Yance, talking about phytoestrogens & pleiotropic effects.

Meaning, plants rarely do just one thing. They work across multiple systems and pathways at the same time. That layered intelligence is part of what makes botanical medicine so fascinating, especially in integrative cancer care.

Always grateful for the chance to sit, listen, learn, and keep tuning the instrument.

The right amount matters.

Too little doesn’t move the needle.

Too much can create new problems.

What works is what’s measured, adjusted, and specific to you.

That’s how you get results that actually hold.
