MYTH: If you can push through stress, it's not really affecting you.

Pushing through doesn't turn off the stress response. Your nervous system stays activated even when you're powering through your to-do list.

TRUTH: Being able to function under stress and being unaffected by it are two different things. One just means you're good at ignoring the signal.

Pushing through isn't the same as being okay. What's your body been telling you lately?

Chronic stress physically changes your brain. Here's the research.

Dr. Bruce McEwen's research on allostatic load shows that chronic stress can physically change the structure of the brain, especially areas tied to memory and emotional regulation.

This isn't metaphorical. Long term stress leaves a physical mark on brain structure.

This is why managing stress isn't optional. It's protecting the brain you'll need for the next fifty years.

What's one thing you do to manage stress? Let us know.

MYTH: Stress is all in your head.

When you're stressed, your body releases cortisol and adrenaline. Those hormones raise your heart rate, tighten your muscles, and change how your gut and immune system work.

TRUTH: Stress shows up in your body just as much as your mind. It just often shows up as tension, poor sleep, or an upset stomach instead of a clear thought.

Where does stress show up for you first? Notice it before it builds.

Closing out August the way we started it: back to routine, back to basics.

This month we covered how posture habits form early and stick around, what Dr. Heidi Haavik's research shows about adjustments and the brain, and why back-to-school stress hits parents just as hard as kids.

The thread through all of it: your nervous system runs the show, whether you're paying attention to it or not.

Which of these hit home for you this month? Let us know.

Most people are low in magnesium and have no idea.

It plays a role in muscle recovery, sleep quality, and how well your nervous system calms down after a stressful day. Simple, overlooked, and worth paying attention to.

Ask us about it at your next visit if you're curious where you stand.

Do you know if you're getting enough magnesium?

MYTH: You'll adjust once school starts and be fine.

Truth: bodies don't fix themselves just because the calendar flips.

Waiting for things to “settle down” usually means the pattern gets more ingrained, not less. Proactive care beats reactive care every time.

What's one thing you keep putting off until things “settle down”?

Your genetics aren't your destiny, but they are your map.

Genetic testing helps us understand how your body processes nutrients, handles stress, and responds to different foods; so your care plan fits you, not just a general template.

One more tool in the toolbox for getting you real, lasting results.

Would you want to know what your genetics say about your health? Ask us about it.
