👏🏆A round of applause for Chelsea, an incredible nurse who works in our ICU, and who is a Daisy Award winner and L.O.V.E. Award honoree. L.O.V.E. means, "Living Our Values Everyday" and is a top award given at Intermountain Health.
This nomination, submitted by a patient's daughter reminds us why nurses like Chelsea are truly healthcare heroes:
"Chelsea cared for my mom during a very vulnerable and frightening time in the ICU, and the compassion she showed made a lasting impact on both of us. My mom has dementia, and it is very easy for people to speak around her, dismiss her, or treat her only as a patient. Chelsea did the opposite. She treated my mom like a whole person — with dignity, humor, patience, and genuine warmth. She took time to laugh with my mom and appreciate her sense of humor. You could see in her eyes that she truly cared. My mom later told me it was the first time in a long time that she felt comfortable opening up to another woman because this nurse treated her like a friend and a human being, not simply a dementia patient in the ICU. That kindness meant more than I can fully express.
She also showed extraordinary compassion towards me as a caregiver. One morning when I was exhausted and trying to hold everything together, she noticed I was struggling and shared some of her own coffee creamer with me so I could have a decent cup of coffee instead of the packaged creamer available on the unit. It may sound small, but in that moment, it felt deeply caring and personal — like she saw me, too. She consistently responded quickly and kindly to every request we had, always making us feel like we mattered. She also patiently helped my mom learn to care for her mouth using a foam swab instead of a toothbrush, something my mom had never done before. She approached every interaction with gentleness, respect, and encouragement. This nurse embodies empathy, compassion, integrity, and community.”
Congratulations, Chelsea, this is well-deserved, and we're so grateful that you're part of our team!
