We're just a few days away before Lindsey hits these streets!! So here's what you need to know to join her for the launch!
Operation Take Up Space officially begins THIS WEEKEND! If you're planning to join us in Western North Carolina, here's everything you need to know about where we'll be, when to meet us, and how you can participate.
You can join us for one event, one day, or the whole weekend. You do NOT have to be walking the entire 300+ miles to participate.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12
📍 GUIDON BREWING CO. | HENDERSONVILLE
⏰ 12:00–4:00 PM
We're kicking off Operation Take Up Space with an afternoon focused on veterans, military families, mental health, wellness, and community care.
🧘 YOGA FEST: Three back-to-back yoga classes throughout the afternoon. Come for one or stay for all three. Bring your own yoga mat.
🎖️ COMMUNITY RESOURCES: We'll be joined by organizations and resources supporting veterans, military families, mental health, wellness, and community care.
🍺 HANG OUT WITH US: You don't have to do yoga! Come meet the march team, learn about Operation Take Up Space, grab a b**r, connect with other folks, and find out how you can participate as we make our way across North Carolina.
Saturday is our kickoff event. The walking begins Sunday morning.
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13
🥾 DAY 1: BLACK MOUNTAIN → OLD FORT
📍 MEET: Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery

⏰ MEET US AT 9:00 AM
Sunday morning, we'll gather at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery to officially begin the walking portion of our 300+ mile journey.
You do NOT have to commit to the entire march—or even the entire day's route. If you want to take the first steps with us, you are welcome. We will have a trail vehicle following us for folks that need to rest.
WHAT TO BRING: Comfortable walking shoes, water, sunscreen, weather-appropriate clothing, any snacks you need, and a plan for transportation after you're finished walking.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: If you're joining us for only part of the walk, please make your own transportation arrangements for your return. This is a point-to-point march, not a loop.
Our destination for the day is:
📍 Appalachian Mountain Brewery — Old Fort Outpost
78A Catawba Ave., Old Fort, NC
We'll arrive in Old Fort, get off our feet for a bit, grab some food/drinks, and get ready for our first community training.
SUNDAY AT 5:00 PM
🛡️ WOMEN'S PROTECTION TEAM TRAINING
📍 Appalachian Mountain Brewery — Old Fort Outpost
78A Catawba Ave., Old Fort, NC

💰 FREE & OPEN TO THE COMMUNITY
You do not have to participate in the march to attend the training. If walking isn't your thing, simply meet us at the brewery for the 5 PM training.
Operation Take Up Space is partnering with the National Women's March for an in-person Women’s Protection Team Training focused on practical community safety and election-protection skills.
The training will cover:
👀 Situational Awareness
How to recognize potential threats and think through mitigation measures in real time.
🤝 De-escalation & Protective Interventions
Understanding how people respond to conflict and violence and learning interventions based on your own abilities and capacity.
🗳️ Poll Site Monitoring & Documentation
Learning methods for observing and documenting potential poll-site interference or violence.
The goal is to give community members practical skills they can use to help keep themselves and others safer in public spaces, at community events, and around polling locations.
