Missing one admin step can turn random testing into a headache.
Most teams focus on the testing itself and forget the workflow around it. That is where problems start. A program can look fine on paper and still fall apart if the admin piece is not handled consistently.
For trucking companies and other safety-sensitive employers, random drug and alcohol testing is a year-round responsibility. That means the process has to stay active, organized, and easy to manage. One-time setup is not enough.
The hidden step is simple: keep the program moving behind the scenes so random selections, scheduling, and record handling do not get delayed.
That matters because delays create gaps. Gaps create risk. And risk creates avoidable problems for drivers, the public, and the business.
A compliant testing program should feel like a system, not a scramble. When the admin side is clear, the rest becomes much easier to maintain.
That is especially true for owner-operators and smaller fleets. Compliance still applies, even when the operation is lean.
