The California Department of Health Care Access and Information found that 40 of California’s 58 counties had a higher ratio of behavioral health encounters to specialized provider licenses than the statewide average in hospital inpatient and emergency department settings.

That means more communities are facing the same challenge: high behavioral health need, limited specialized capacity, and too few clear next steps for people who need ongoing support.

Generations Healthcare is helping change that.

Through Special Treatment Programs, skilled nursing behavioral health care, residential support, and other specialized programs, we provide more structure, more clinical expertise, and more appropriate care pathways for people with complex needs.

Coastal Oaks Special Care Center in Atascadero, CA, is now certified as a Special Treatment Program, adding 30 STP beds alongside 33 long-term care skilled nursing behavioral health beds.

This certification expands access to structured, specialized behavioral health support for residents with complex psychiatric needs and creates more opportunities for stability, growth, and progress.
