Didn’t you hear? It’s strong gal summer 💪👇
In a world that wants women to shrink, being strong is an act of resistance.
Yoga, climbing and more recently lifting weights has not only helped me feel the strongest I have ever felt, but allowed me to find joy in movement that extends way beyond the physical.
Being strong helps me feel capable, resilient and able to do hard things but most importantly live life to the fullest.
In a culture where thinness is trending (AGAIN 🫠) it is important to know the facts and the longterm effects to make an informed choice and you know I love me some research.🙌
Studies show:
-Women reach peak bone mass in their late 20s to early 30s, bone mass attained early in life is one of the most important predictors of lifelong skeletal health.
-Women aged 50 or older have a FOUR times higher rate of osteoporosis (weakens bones, making them fragile and highly susceptible to fractures) and a TWO times higher rate of osteopenia (bone density loss) compared with men.
-Estrogen, a hormone in women that protects bones, decreases sharply when women reach menopause. This is why the chance of developing osteoporosis increases as women reach menopause.
-Women can lose up to 20% of their bone mass in just the first five to seven years after menopause.
-1 in 3 women over age 50 will suffer a fracture
(I will post the study links in the comments if you are interested)
You are never too young or old to take care of your bones and nurture a strong and healthy body.
Things to focus on:
- Fuel your body
- Strength training, lift heavy things and your body weight!
- Weight bearing activities, walking, hiking, dancing etc
- Balance and range of motion, YOGA!
- Find joy in movement, you are more likely to stick to something you enjoy!
Thanks for joining my Ted talk😂 this is something I feel strongly about and I am honestly just sick of the b.s that we are subjected to surrounding our bodies. I don’t know about you but I want to continue to do all the things that make me happy for as long as I can (plus can’t wait for my quads to get even bigger😂).🤘
