🌿 This is what it looks like when a student steps fully into her calling.

Meet Lauren K. of Soil Sea Sky β€” out there selling her own teas and dishing out the most gorgeous iced hibiscus raspberry tea. 🌺🍹

Watching our grads go from learning the plants to actually building something of their own β€” a real business, rooted in real skill β€” is one of my favorite parts of this whole journey. This is exactly why we teach the way we do: not just the herbalism, but the confidence and the practical know-how to make a sustainable living doing work you love.

Lauren, we are so proud of you. πŸ™Œ This is what a healed healer building a thriving practice looks like.

If you've ever dreamed of turning your love of plants into something real β€” a product line, a tea business, a practice of your own β€” know that it's absolutely possible. It just takes the right guidance, one steady step at a time.

Go support Lauren and sip something delicious. πŸ‘‰ []

🌿 This weekend I got to do one of my favorite things: visit my brand-new nephew (just about 2 months old! πŸ₯Ή) up in the Bay Area β€” and sneak in some serious botanizing along the way. πŸ˜„

We spent our little baby nap walks wandering through Golden Gate Park, and honestly, if you haven't walked all the way through it before β€” it is an absolute treasure trove for botanists and nature lovers alike. 🌸

A few highlights from the trip:

🌺 The Dahlia Garden, in full, ridiculous bloom

🌳 Some gorgeous dogwood trees

🌲 A cypress tree that was just massive

🩡 A blue heron, standing perfectly still like it owned the place

🦬 And somehow... bison. In a city park. I still can't get over it (no pictures, I know β€” you'll just have to trust me that it's bewildering to see actual buffalo grazing in the middle of San Francisco).

There's something so grounding about combining family time with plant time. Watching my nephew take in the world for the very first time, while I'm over here geeking out over dogwoods β€” it's a good reminder that curiosity about the natural world starts early, and it never really has to stop. 🌱

Swipe through for a few of my favorite finds from the walk. πŸ‘‰

🌿 Summer is here, and it's blooming.

Right now, the yuccas are putting on their whole show β€” 12+ feet tall, covered in these creamy blooms that only last a couple of weeks before the flies move in and take over pollination duty. πŸ˜…

This is one of my favorite windows of the whole year. Not because it's Instagram-perfect (though β€” c'mon 😍) but because it's a reminder of how much is happening around us all the time, if we just slow down enough to notice.

Penstemons, Mariposa lilies, blue dicks, false yarrow, mustards, moth mullein β€” the whole hillside is alive right now.

This is the heart of what we teach at Artemisia Academy: not just admiring the land, but actually knowing it β€” the names, the cycles, the timing of it all. 🌼

🌼 A little field guide to what's blooming right now.

Swipe through for a closer look at what's showing up on the land this week:

🌿 Yuccas, over 12 feet tall
🌸 Mariposa lilies
🌱 Penstemons
πŸ’™ Purple Nightshade
🀍 False yarrow
🌾 Mustards
πŸ•ŠοΈ Moth mullein
πŸƒ Larkspur
..and that's just what made it into frame. πŸ˜„

Every one of these has its own story β€” its own uses, its own safety notes, its own reason for growing exactly where it does. That's the part most people miss when they walk past a hillside like this: it's not just "pretty," it's information, if you know how to read it.

In our Intro to Plant ID class, we require students to get out on the trail every week to see what is blooming!

This is exactly the kind of noticing we build inside Artemisia Academy β€” learning to see a landscape the way it actually is, not just as scenery.

Which one do you recognize? Which one's new to you? Tell me below. πŸ‘‡

🌼 That "w**d" in your yard? It's one of the most powerful
herbal allies you already have.

Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) has been quietly offering
its medicine for centuries β€” cooling excess heat, moving
stuck energy, supporting the liver, cleansing the blood,
and restoring minerals your body's been asking for.

The root. The leaf. The flower. Each one has something
different to offer.

And here's what we love most about this plant: it doesn't
rush. It works slowly, consistently, and gently β€” the way
real healing actually happens.

This month we're featuring Dandelion as our Herb of the
Week. Swipe through to learn its herbal actions, traditional
uses, and how to make a nourishing dandelion root "coffee"
at home. 🌱

PART 1
🌿 Plant ID Quiz: Can you name this plant family?

Drop your guess in the comments before I reveal it below. πŸ‘‡

No wrong answers here β€” I'm just curious how many of you already know this one on sight, and how many of you are guessing right along with me. πŸ˜„

Here's the thing though: this kind of ID knowledge clicks so much faster when you're actually standing on a trail with someone pointing it out in real time β€” versus trying to memorize it from a book or a feed post (even this one πŸ‘€).

That's the whole reason I built my in-person Plant ID course the way I did: two weekends, right here in Santa Barbara, learning to read the land instead of memorizing a list.

Tag a friend who'd get this one wrong with you. πŸ˜… And if you want to actually learn this stuff for real β€” link in bio. 🌱

🌿 If you've been feeling drained, foggy, or just off β€” this one's for you.

Liver has been a traditional food for energy and iron for generations, and this pΓ’tΓ© makes it something you'll actually crave (yes, really).

What's in it:

πŸ§… Caramelized onions
πŸ— Organic chicken livers, browned
πŸ₯“ Bacon fat, all blended together
🍎 Served with apple or pear slices

Organ meats are some of the most nutrient-dense foods available β€” naturally rich in iron and B vitamins, which is why they've traditionally been valued for supporting energy, especially during times of fatigue or monthly blood loss.

This isn't about restriction or rules. It's about remembering that real, whole foods can be some of the most powerful medicine we have β€” no fancy supplements required.

🌱 As always β€” if you're managing anemia or another health condition, this is a lovely addition to your plate, but please loop in your practitioner too. Food and herbs work with care, not instead of it.

Save this one for your next grocery trip. πŸ›’βœ¨
