Anxiety might say:
“Don’t go.”
“What if it’s awkward?”
“What if something goes wrong?”
“Wait until you feel ready.”

But you don’t have to wait for anxiety’s permission to live your life. Sometimes courage looks like going to the party while you’re nervous. Eating the food your anxiety tells you to avoid. Going to school even when your stomach is in knots. Leaving a thought unanswered.

ERP helps you practice making choices based on what matters to you—not what anxiety demands from you.

Some questions don’t feel like questions.
They feel like emergencies. 🌊

“What if I’m a bad person?”

“What if I hurt someone?”

“What if I made a terrible mistake?”

“What if I don’t really love them?”

“What if I can never know for sure?”

So you search for the answer.

You replay.

You analyze.

You ask for reassurance from a friend, family member or chat bot.

You check your feelings.

And then the question comes back.

OCD often keeps you trapped in the pursuit of certainty.
ERP helps you practice stepping out of that cycle and allowing uncertainty to exist without solving it.

Maybe yes. Maybe no. Keep living.

OCD doesn’t have to involve cleaning, checking, repeating or other compulsions we can see. Sometimes the compulsions are happening completely inside your head. 😅

OCD can involve:

• Mentally reviewing something you said or did

• Googling for answers

• Asking friends or family for reassurance

• Replaying memories

• Checking your feelings

• Avoiding certain people, places, or situations

• Trying to “figure out” intrusive thoughts

If you’ve ever thought, “But I don’t have visible rituals, so maybe this isn’t OCD…”—OCD can be easy to miss when the compulsions are less obvious.

ERP helps people practice responding differently to intrusive thoughts and uncertainty instead of getting pulled into the cycle.

Sometimes anxiety in teens doesn’t look like anxiety at all. 🌊
It might look like avoiding activities, needing constant reassurance, perfectionism, physical complaints, or worrying about what others think.
And sometimes, a teen may not even realize that anxiety is behind what they’re experiencing.
If you’ve noticed changes in your teen’s behavior, it can be helpful to look beyond the behavior itself and ask: “What might be making this feel so difficult for them?”
Anxiety can be treated, and teens don’t have to wait until it’s interfering with every part of their life to get support.
At Anxiety Experts, we use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) to help teens face fears, build tolerance for discomfort and uncertainty, and get back to the things that matter to them.

You don’t have to wait until they stop seeing friends.
You don’t have to wait until anxiety or OCD takes over their life. 🌊

Could your teen be struggling with Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) — without you realizing it?

BDD is more than typical teenage insecurity or worrying about appearance. A teen with BDD may become intensely preoccupied with a perceived flaw, spend a lot of time checking or hiding their appearance, avoid photos or social situations, repeatedly seek reassurance, or feel distressed about going to school or being around others.

Sometimes, what looks like “I hate how I look” or avoiding certain activities may be a sign that something deeper is going on.

💛 As a parent, you don’t have to know exactly what to say or do. The first step is noticing the signs and taking your teen’s distress seriously.

BDD is treatable, and evidence-based treatment can help teens spend less time focused on their appearance and more time living their lives.

If you’re concerned about your teen, reach out to Anxiety Experts at [email protected]. Our experienced therapists specialize in BDD and related anxiety disorders.

A little conference recap! 💙

A couple of weeks ago, our Anxiety Experts team had the privilege of attending the 31st Annual OCD Conference in Seattle. We spent the weekend learning from leading experts, connecting with clinicians, advocates, and families, and sharing about our practice at our exhibit booth.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to continue growing, collaborating, and staying at the forefront of evidence-based treatment for OCD, anxiety, and related disorders. Every conference leaves us inspired and brings back new ideas that help us better serve our clients.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth—we loved meeting so many wonderful people. Already looking forward to next year!
