Happy Mother’s Day to everyone who mothers 🤍

The ones raising children, loving pets, keeping plants alive, checking in on friends, caring for parents, making a home, holding communities together.

Motherhood is love in action. It is noticing, tending, staying. It is patience when things are hard, presence when there are no perfect words, and care given again and again in small, ordinary ways.

Today is for every person who has mothered someone or something with their time, their hands, and their heart. May the care you give so freely find its way back to you today.

Last week I had the chance to speak at the Miramar hotel, hosted by the wonderful Godmothers community, on a question that is always ringing in my ears: how did we come to believe we’re separate from nature, and what are we losing in living that way?​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

In the West, most of us grew up with a particular story about nature. That it’s out there, something separate from us, something we visit on weekends or vacation to take a break from our real lives. That framing is both recent and worth questioning, and I’d argue it’s at the root of why we’re struggling to respond to the ecological crises in front of us.

We are not outside of nature looking in. We are nature. Our bodies run on the same cycles, the same chemistry, the same ancient logic as everything else alive on this planet. Recognizing that is the first step toward understanding why protecting the natural world is the same thing as protecting ourselves 🌎
