Meet Vicky, SB Physio's Office Manager (aka clinic superstar). She's worked at the clinic since June 2015 but will be leaving this fall to pursue her DPT at Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, CA. In her free time not only is she a great cook, but also a ferocious plant mom and avid rock climber. Find her enjoying the outdoors on runs or playing volleyball, then refueling with her vice of chips and dip.

Check out this variation of your usual 🐈 🐪 stretch turned into a loaded flexion based core exercise!

Start on your hands and knees, and then lift your knees about 1 inch off the ground.

Hold this position as you curl your pelvis up towards your belly button (rounding your low back) and then uncurl it (arching your low back).

Make sure you keep your mid and upper back fixed for enhanced lumbopelvic control.

Keep the motion as controlled as possible and don’t let the knees lift more than 1 inch off the ground. It’s tougher than it looks!

Check out this classic 🐈 🐪 stretch turned into a loaded flexion based core exercise!

Start on your hands and knees with your wrists below your shoulders and knees below your hips. Now here’s the hard part: lift your knees 1 inch off the floor. Maintain this position as you curl your pelvis up towards your belly button and then slowly arch your low back. Try to keep your mid and upper back fixed in a neutral position for enhanced lumbopelvic control.

Just can’t get enough of these side steps!

To get more of a burn in your gluteals 🍑 (specifically glute med), place a resistance band around your legs, hinge from your hips, and sit your butt back. Keep your feet about shoulder width apart and take small steps out to the side. Pretend like you have a cup of water on your head so you don’t bop up and down or sway side to side!

Meet one of our PT aides, Bryce! Before pursuing an Athletic Training Credential, Bryce is currently obtaining a certification in Sports Management and finishing up his Psychology degree from UCSB. He is a big fan of Game of Thrones and entering in casual taco eating competitions 🌮🌮. To balance out these sedentary activities he is usually found kayaking, hiking, or working out at the gym 🏋️‍♂️🏋️‍♂️

Marching into March with an Ab Brace March!

Things to keep in mind while performing this exercise:

1. Keep your core engaged throughout this exercise by curling your pelvis up towards your belly button and slightly pushing your low back into the ground to find neutral spine.

2. Keep your knees bent at 90 degrees throughout the exercise and only tap your heel on the ground.

3. Try not to let your knees march past your hips!
