Hospice Green Flags: What to look for.
When you are looking for a hospice agency, it can feel overwhelming to know who to trust. As an administrator, these are three "green flags" I tell families to look for to ensure they are getting high-quality, responsive care.
The top three?
1. 24/7 to a live local staff nurse (not a call center) even after hours.
2. They honor your right to choose without pressure or judgement
3. Great Communication (Does the team get back to you quickly, do they take the time to answer your questions?)
Your family deserves the best support possible.

Hospice Comfort Kit: What it is and why it’s there.

Think of it as an emergency safety net. It is delivered to your home on day one so you’re never caught unprepared.

When comfort medications arrive at a patient's house, it can feel a little intimidating. Just because we sent it today does not mean you will need to use it immediately. From managing sudden pain to calming anxiety or nausea, this kit ensures that the medications your loved one might need are already under your roof, so you can provide the comfort they need.

We stay prepared so you can focus on what matters most.

What happens in a hospice emergency at 2 AM?
One of the scariest parts of caregiving is the fear of a midnight crisis. But when you are on hospice, you never have to face the dark alone.

You don't call 911, and you don't have to make a stressful trip to the emergency room. We have an on-call nurse available 24/7. If an emergency happens in the middle of the night, you call our direct line, and a nurse will talk you through it or come right to your doorstep.

At Golden Time Hospice, we don’t outsource our calls, we handle it directly. We are here for you around the clock. 📞

Who pays for hospice care?
One of the biggest worries families face is the cost of care. The good news is that hospice is covered 100% by Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurance plans.
But here is an important right you might not know you have: Under Medicare, you have the right to choose any Medicare-certified hospice agency you want. Even if you are under a strict HMO or insurance plan, you are never forced to use a specific agency. You have the freedom to choose the team you trust most to care for your family.
We handle all the insurance paperwork for you. Have questions about your choices? Give us a call. 📞

Why we do what we do. 🤍
When our founder lost her own mother, she experienced firsthand how difficult navigating that journey can be. That profound loss changed everything for her as a nurse.

Wendy started Golden Time Hospice because she realized no family should have to walk through a terminal illness alone. She wanted to build a team dedicated to walking with patients and their loved ones, providing the comfort, dignity, and personal support she knew they needed.

This isn't just a business for us; it’s a mission born from the heart.

Hospice isn’t a place. It’s a service that comes to you.
One of the biggest myths about hospice is that you have to "go" somewhere to receive it. In reality, we bring our expert team of nurses and caregivers directly to the comfort of your own home.
We meet you exactly where you are. 🤍

Hospice isn't about the end; it's about the now. 🤍

Many families wait until the final days to call hospice, but our care is designed for the final six months of life. As an administrator, I see every day how much peace of mind comes when we shift the focus from fighting a disease to prioritizing the person.

It’s about more than medical care—it’s about quality of life and making every moment count with the people you love.

Choosing hospice isn't giving up. It’s choosing how you want to live.

Someone you love has died.
And in your heart, you are coming to know a pain deeper than you ever imagined.

Grief brings chaos.
Your soul cries out.
At times, everything feels overwhelming, and hopelessness settles in.

As painful as it is, you begin to learn that grief must be honored.
You must surrender to it, sit with the wound, and make space for the loss itself.

If your experience is anything like mine, or the many mourners I have been honored to walk alongside since 2006, you may be feeling alone or even abandoned right now.

You may find yourself asking questions like:
“How can this be happening?”
“How am I going to make it through this?”
“Why do I feel so lost?”

Loss reminds us how little control we truly have.
It can leave us feeling powerless, helpless, and deeply weary.

When we lose someone we love, it changes us.
We mourn not only the loss of someone outside ourselves, but a loss within ourselves, too.

Sadness and loneliness may walk beside you on this journey.
You may feel that when your loved one died, part of you died as well.

And yet…
HOPE remains.

My prayer for you is strength for today, tomorrow, and the days ahead.
That you may discover HOPE, an expectation of good that is yet to be.

May you find new ways to renew your spirit.
May meaning, purpose, and love slowly return.
May you feel held by a loving God who never leaves you.

May your heart remain open to the gentle touch of HOPE.
Amen.

For hope is what draws us out of the dark and into the light.

Love and Blessings,
Chaplain Lorraine
