This is not just a statistic. This is about lives. About mothers who should be here, families who deserved a different outcome, and stories that should have continued.

Eighty-four percent of pregnancy-related deaths are preventable, and still, Black women are more than three times as likely to die. That is not about biology. That is about being unheard, dismissed, and not taken seriously when something feels wrong.

At SCV Birth Center, we believe care starts with listening. Really listening. Not rushing past concerns, not minimizing symptoms, and not assuming. Because when a birthing person says something feels off, that matters. When a mother speaks, she should be heard the first time.

This is why advocacy matters. This is why relationship-centered care matters. This is why who you choose to walk alongside you matters.

You deserve care that sees you. You deserve care that listens. 🤍

Proof that birth work can be both deeply skilled… and full of joy. 🤍

Here’s a little behind the scenes of Renee and Julia showing just how many ways your body can move, open, and work with your baby during birth. Because there is no one “right” position.

Your body isn’t meant to stay still.
It’s meant to move, shift, lean, sway, rest, and follow what feels right in the moment.

At SCV Birth Center, you are not limited to a bed. You have the freedom to find the positions that support your body, your baby, and your experience. Whether that’s upright, hands and knees, in water, supported by your partner, or something uniquely your own.

And yes… sometimes we have a little fun showing you what that can look like. 😉

Which position feels most natural to you? 👇

Leaking when you laugh, sneeze, or jump is incredibly common, but that does not mean it is just your new normal.

Whether you are six weeks postpartum or navigating the natural tissue changes of menopause, your pelvic health deserves dedicated, validating care. I just published a comprehensive new guide on the blog all about Pelvic Floor Therapy.

In this post, I dive into the physical realities of why you might be experiencing pelvic heaviness, pain during intimacy, or sudden incontinence. I also break down why simply being told by a doctor to "do more Kegels" is rarely the answer to true rehabilitation.

Operating as a sole provider gives me the ability to offer the deeply personalized attention your healing requires. Over my approximately 160,000 hours working in women's health, I have seen how transformative it is when a woman is finally heard and supported in her physical recovery. I take the time to sit with you, listen to what your body is experiencing, and help guide you toward the right therapeutic relief. You do not have to just live with the discomfort.

There’s a quiet assumption that once your baby is here, the most critical part is over.

But the truth is, your body is still working. Still shifting. Still asking to be listened to.

More than half of pregnancy-related complications happen after birth. And too often, families are sent home without clear guidance on what matters, what is normal, and what is not.

This is where awareness becomes protection.

A headache that feels different.
Changes in your vision.
Shortness of breath.
Swelling that comes on suddenly.
Pain that doesn’t feel right.

These are not things to brush off. Not things to wait out.

You know your body. Even in the haze of new motherhood, even when you’re tired, even when everything feels new, there is a part of you that knows when something is off.

That voice matters.

We say this often, and we mean it deeply: advocacy can save your life. Not in a dramatic way, but in the quiet moment where you choose to speak up, to call, to be seen, to be taken seriously.

You deserve care that doesn’t disappear after birth.
You deserve to be supported, informed, and listened to in this phase too.

Because your life matters just as much as the one you just brought into the world. 🤍

This is the heart of our work.

Not just one midwife. Not just one perspective.
A collective of women who have dedicated their lives to walking alongside families through some of the most meaningful moments they will ever experience.

Between us, there are thousands of births attended. Years of clinical experience. Countless hours spent listening, supporting, learning, and showing up again and again.

But what matters most is not just what we’ve done.
It’s how we care.

Each midwife in our collective brings something different. Different life experiences. Different areas of focus. Different ways of holding space. And together, that creates something deeper for the families we serve.

Care that is not one-size-fits-all.
Care that adapts to you.
Care that sees you as a whole person, not just a moment in time.

From pregnancy to postpartum, from birth to menopause, this is a team that believes in relationship first. In taking the time. In truly knowing the people who walk through our doors.

Because you deserve more than just a provider.
You deserve a village. 🤍✨

If you have ever been woken up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat, or felt that sudden, intense wave of heat take over your body out of nowhere, you already know that hot flashes are more than just a minor inconvenience. They are disruptive, exhausting, and can completely hijack your day.

But you do not have to just sit back and fan yourself while waiting for the years to pass. I just published a new guide on the blog specifically tackling the infamous hot flash.

In this post, I am breaking down exactly what is happening biologically when these vasomotor symptoms strike and why that sudden drop in estrogen causes your internal thermostat to go haywire. More importantly, I dive into actionable, evidence-based solutions. From understanding your triggers to the realities of targeted Hormone Replacement Therapy, there are real ways to find relief.

As a sole operator in my practice, I know that true menopause care requires time and deeply personalized attention. I sit down with you one-on-one to understand exactly how these symptoms are impacting your sleep, your mood, and your daily life. Together, we build a care plan based on how you actually feel, rather than just looking at standard lab results.

You deserve to feel cool, comfortable, and in control of your own body.

What is the real difference between giving birth at a birth center versus a hospital?

It’s the question we are asked more than anything.
And the answer is quieter than people expect.

It comes down to how you are seen.

Hospitals are built for urgency. They are essential, highly skilled, and designed to respond when something is wrong. But because of that structure, even normal, low-risk births are often guided by timelines, policies, and shift changes. Care can feel like a series of steps. Efficient. Necessary. But not always personal.

Our model is different.

At SCV Birth Center, we practice relationship-centered midwifery care. We see pregnancy and birth as normal, healthy transitions, and we build our care around knowing you, not managing a process.

That difference shows up in the small, meaningful ways.

It looks like sitting together for an hour at your prenatal visits, not because we have to, but because understanding your life, your stress, your questions, and your story is part of keeping you safe.

It looks like freedom during labor. The ability to move, to eat, to rest, to labor in water, to follow what your body is asking for without unnecessary interruption.

It looks like staying connected after your baby is here. Not disappearing until a six-week visit, but continuing to walk alongside you in those early days when everything is new and support matters most.

This is not about creating a “perfect” birth.
It is about creating care that is grounded in trust.

Because when you are known, when you are listened to, and when your care is built around you as a whole person, everything about the experience changes.

Menopause was never meant to be something you just “push through.”

And yet, so many women have been told exactly that.
That the fatigue, the brain fog, the joint pain, the anxiety… it’s just part of getting older. Something to tolerate. Something to survive.

But what if this season of life was meant to be supported instead?

At SCV Birth Center, we see menopause as a transition that deserves the same level of attention, care, and respect as any other stage in a woman’s life. Not rushed. Not dismissed. Not reduced to lab values alone.

Because you are more than numbers on a chart.
You are a whole person with a story, a body that is changing, and symptoms that deserve to be understood and treated thoughtfully.

This is where relationship-centered care matters. Taking the time to listen. Looking at the full picture. Creating a plan that supports your energy, your sleep, your mood, your long-term health.

You don’t have to do this alone. And you don’t have to suffer through it.

There is another way to move through this season. One where you feel supported, informed, and deeply cared for. 🤍✨

Menopause is a landmark transition, yet so many women are simply told to "tough it out" or that their discomfort is just a normal part of aging. I completely disagree.

Suffering through hot flashes, systemic joint pain, and brain fog is not a medical necessity. In the newest blog post on the site, I dive deep into what true, comprehensive menopause support actually looks like. The guide explores why treating your specific symptoms is so much more important than just looking at "in-range" lab values, the reality of Hormone Replacement Therapy titration, and why shifting your exercise routine to heavy lifting is absolutely crucial for protecting your metabolism and bone health.

After dedicating approximately 160,000 hours of my career to women's health, I know firsthand that standard 15-minute appointments simply aren't enough to address these complex changes. Operating my practice as a sole provider allows me to offer the deeply personalized, relationship-centered care this transition demands. You deserve a provider who listens to your unique hormonal journey without rushing you out the door.

Aging is a reality, but raging against it is completely optional. You do not have to navigate this hormonal shift alone or settle for feeling less than your best.

To the mom reading this… or the one still growing your baby and quietly wondering who you will become…

We do this work for you.

For the moments when you’re unsure. When your confidence feels just out of reach. When the world feels loud and you’re trying to find your own voice inside of it.

We do this because we’ve seen what happens when someone is truly believed in. We’ve watched women step into themselves in ways they didn’t know were possible. We’ve witnessed the exact moment doubt softens, and something deeper takes its place.

Not perfection. Not performance.
Just quiet, steady knowing.

We do this for the mother who needs someone to sit beside her and say, “I see you.”
For the birthing person who needs space to move, to feel, to trust their body without interruption.
For the families whose stories unfold in real, raw, beautiful ways.

This work has never been about the birth alone. It’s about the transformation that happens within it. It’s about being trusted to stand in that space, to witness it, and to hold it with care.

And every time, without exception, it reminds us why we chose this path. 🤍
