SCV Birth Center

SCV Birth Center Decades of midwifery-led care. Santa Clarita’s first accredited birth center—and the longest-standing in Los Angeles County.

We are located in the heart of the Santa Clarita Valley, and were the first to be nationally accredited in the SCV, Antelope, and San Fernando Valley. All of our California Medical Board licensed midwives provide personalized maternity and well-woman care including natural childbirth, home birth and waterbirth options.

Sometimes the doppler does not pick up heart tones on the first try, and the room gets quiet for a second.

There are ordinary reasons for it. The uterus may be tipped back. The placenta may be sitting anterior, right between the doppler and the baby. Sometimes an older sibling is lying across her belly and the baby simply is not interested in being found.

So Renee reaches for the handheld ultrasound and looks. In this visit, there it is. Intrauterine pregnancy, heart rate visible, baby moving.

That is the part worth noticing. No referral. No waiting until Thursday. No driving somewhere else while turning over every possibility in your head on the way. The answer comes in the same room, in the same visit, from the same person who knows your history.

This is part of why our prenatal visits run an hour. There is room in them to slow down, take another look, and finish the conversation properly.

Come see the space and meet the midwives. Tours and consultations are open.

Quiet, warm, and finally here. 🤍

The very first destination for a newborn isn't a plastic bassinet or a scale.

It is their parent's chest.

This is where they truly belong in those very first moments after entering the world.

Skin-to-skin contact right after birth is the most natural place for them to be, helping both of you transition gently and feel connected.

Those first moments should be about slow, uninterrupted connection without any rush or immediate separation.

Protecting that early bonding time makes all the difference when welcoming a new baby into the world.

For those who have been through it, did you get to have that quiet skin-to-skin time right after birth? What was that first hour like for you?

Choosing a birth center with a midwife isn't a compromise. It's a powerful, supportive, and fully valid choice for you and your baby.

People call us apologetically.

They open with a list of reasons we are probably going to say no. Their age. A miscarriage. Years of trying. A first baby. A previous labor that went sideways.

Very often, none of it is disqualifying.

These do not automatically rule you out:
▪️ Your age, on either end of the range
▪️ A history of miscarriage or pregnancy loss
▪️ Difficulty conceiving, or fertility treatment
▪️ This being your first baby
▪️ A long or difficult previous labor
▪️ Gestational diabetes managed with diet, reviewed case by case

And there are times a hospital genuinely is the safer setting. Baby breech as your due date approaches. Twins or more. Diabetes requiring insulin. High blood pressure or preeclampsia. Certain heart, kidney, or clotting conditions. Labor before 37 weeks.

That list is not a ranking of who deserves what. It is how we keep you and your baby safe.

Here is what most people do not know: eligibility is not a one time yes or no. It is not decided at your first appointment and filed away. We reassess all pregnancy long, because pregnancy changes, and what is true at twelve weeks may not be true at thirty-six weeks in either direction. 🤍

If your plan does change, your care does not. You do not lose your midwife, your relationship, or your voice. We help you find the right provider, and we stay in your corner through postpartum.

You are not a case to be sorted. Sixty-minute visits mean we have time to explain every criterion and every option sitting in front of you.

Ask us before you assume the answer. A consultation costs you nothing but a conversation.

Home to a collective of midwives including and , serving Santa Clarita, Newhall, the Antelope Valley, Simi Valley, and the San Fernando Valley since 2010.

Sixty-minute prenatal visits are not a luxury; they are how we come to know your body, your history, and your normal. Care built around you, not around a schedule. 🤍

We are not going to tell you labor is painless.

You will never hear us say the right mindset makes it easy, or that wanting relief means you did not want it badly enough.

What we can tell you honestly is that pain and suffering are not the same thing, and the difference between them is almost always about support.

Freestanding birth centers do not offer epidurals. That is a difference in setting, not a judgment about your choice. An epidural requires anesthesia staff and continuous monitoring that belong in a hospital.

What you have instead is not a consolation prize:
Deep water immersion that takes gravity off your back and pelvis
Complete freedom to walk, sway, kneel, squat, and change your mind every ten minutes

Hands on counterpressure, hip squeezes, and warm compresses
Food and drink whenever you want them, because labor is endurance work

A midwife who stays, rather than one who checks in between rooms

The room itself is a comfort tool. Light, sound, privacy, and who is allowed in. You decide all of it. 🕯️

And if you change your mind? Then you change your mind, and we help you. We arrange the transfer and we go with you. You will not be lectured, delayed, or asked to prove you tried hard enough.

Wanting relief is not weakness. It is information, and we listen to it.

Doulas are welcome here. So are partners, mothers, and best friends. This is your room.

Come sit in the tub before you decide. Schedule a tour or a consultation and ask us what a hard labor actually looks like here.

Knowing you well is not a nice extra, it is the clinical work. It is how we notice early, ask the right question, and act at the right moment. 🤍

Is birthing with a midwife in a birth center a "compromise"? Many people wonder if it's less safe or somehow "not as good" as a hospital birth.

What was your experience birthing with a midwife?
