Day 4 of camp was such fun! 🧑🏽‍🍳

Thanksgiving dinner themed – cauliflower mash (substitute for mashed potatoes) 🥔

lightened up pumpkin pie (with protein powder, flaxseed, and very low sugar)🥧

Mini Turkey chocolate pretzel sticks (where I reminded the students sugar is part of life and it’s very important to exercise moderation as they learn to make healthy choices for themselves)💪🏽

And Turkey-shaped meat and cheese appetizer platter (that looks so festive served at a holiday gathering…. Also a fun activity to make with family & friends around the holidays!) 🦃

Nutrition activities ~ healthy lifestyle sign language to teach vocabulary ✅

healthy habits bingo to review what the concepts/vocabulary looks like in everyday life (for example, moving your body every day, drink half your body weight in ounces of water, the function of protein in the body, etc.)✅

“Eat a rainbow” craft to remind them the importance of eating fresh fruits and vegetables, and the function of each color of fruit/veggies (“phytonutrients” plant nutrients- they glued the colored definition next to the color of fruit)✅

Washing dishes, vacuuming, wiping up messes, playing in the music room, trampoline, water play, football, foosball & lots of fun together!✨

Grateful to teach these engaged students & looking forward to day 5: Christmas-themed last day! 😉

Day 3 of cooking camp was fantastic! 🧑🏽‍🍳

Fall snacks theme - apple cinnamon veggie protein muffins & smoothie bar where each team got to mix and match their own smoothie and then pour cups for all the students to try some… They really liked that!🍎

Nutrition activities - reviewed the healthy lifestyle sign language, played macronutrient picture bingo, then did a more advanced bingo that included healthy habits & earned prizes! 🍌

Then took imaginary trips to Starbucks and the Habit to look at their menus, figure out how to read nutrition facts, learn if a food choice is “balanced” or not & understand how food affects the body💪🏽

Finished with Halloween themed food art party appetizers - spiders, ghosts & pumpkins🎃

The students each washed dishes, put ingredients away, cleaned up their stations🧼

And they got to pick which day they do their vacuum test and washing dishes test to “graduate” camp on Friday 🎓

(which really means they get special prizes and certificates, but I want them to feel like they earned them…. Because we all know that cleaning up is part of the cooking process! 😉)

Wonderful to see these kids confidence grow each day… Ready for day 4! 🌴

Day 2 of camp! 🧑🏽‍🍳 Summer lunch and patriotic holiday themed ~ twice baked potatoes, low sugar- root beer floats, red, white, and blueberry parfaits, and 3 kinds of red white and blue snack/appetizers that work really well for parties!❤️🤍💙

Focused a lot on food prep & process skills today - students washed berries, peeled and chopped carrots, used the blender to make carrot purée to boost the vitamin A, C, and fiber in the twice baked potatoes🥕

they cooked meat on the stove, baked the the potatoes in the oven, washed dishes, threw away trash, wiped off tables, put new table covers on, even did some vacuuming… 🧼

And a lot of problem-solving and independence, in terms of where to find ingredients, and how to read recipes, follow directions & navigate the cooing process 🙌🏽

Had a lot of fun during the breaks on the trampoline, music room, talking, laughing and enjoy enjoying each other’s company!✨

Such a wonderful group of students ~ Bring on day 3! 🌴

Day 1 ‘KIDS in the KITCHEN’ June summer camp was amazing! 🌴

Students Participated with positive enthusiastic attitudes, were helpful to each other in class, & seemed to have a lot of fun!🎉

They made Leprechaun pancakes, Valentines heart buddies & Easter bird nests = Healthy holiday breakfast with festive food art appetizers! 🧑🏽‍🍳

And lots of Macronutrient info! Healthy lifestyle ASL, reading the Macros Reference page in the book out loud, matching activity page, and sorting food pictures craft✂️🥕

Love seeing them learn so much while having fun with other kids! 😊 Blessed to teach these wonderful students!

Summer kick-off trip to Knott’s Berry Farm & Soak City was AMAZING!! 💦🌴

Had the privilege of facilitating the student worship band for the Libertas graduation ceremony…. 🎵

& loved seeing their willingness to practice, rehearse & share their musical talents excellently with their family & friends.🥁🎻🎹🎤

Here is the upbeat song they led the attendees in singing to appreciate all God has done in their lives this school year! ❤️

And they had fun doing it! 😉

🥕My students’ last weekly cooking class for the whole 25-26 school year! And it was such a fun one to end on: patriotic food art party apps & protein-boosted homemade ice cream! ❤️🤍💙

Plus nutrition basics & healthy lifestyle review craft ✂️

AND a fun food scale activity learning to weigh/measure ingredients …. & how the “tare“ function works ⚖️

(Which was a key piece of my own health journey when I first learned about how macronutrients and proper nutrition effect metabolism, weight & energy management ✅)

The best is when I hear comments from parents like:

✨ “my son is more mindful when he eats at home… He tells me Mrs. Jones says to eat more protein and not just carbohydrates!”

✨ “ she’s so much more confident and helpful at home… She even washes dishes because she does it in cooking class & now she’s supposed to do it at home!”

That’s what it’s all about! ❤️

Developing confidence, independence, life skills, and hands-on cooking & kitchen safety skills….. and practical nutrition basics to build a healthy lifestyle for themselves.🥬

All things I wished I would’ve learned growing up & yet that’s part of my own journey🙏🏽

Learning it as an adult & integrating it for myself… Seeing the value for my own boys…
& creating “KIDS in the KITCHEN” classes to educate, equip & encourage the next generation🫐

SO grateful for the wonderful families who trust me to teach their precious children.💕

And now onto Summer healthy cooking & nutrition CLASSES & CAMPS! 🌴

For the experiences, relationships & the boys becoming more confident, resilient & humble through practicing Jiu Jitsu while testing their strength & skill in competitions. 💪🏽

🥑Girl Scout Cooking Class was such fun! Enthusiastic attitudes, positive teamwork, tasting new foods, hands-on cooking skills & learning independence through following their own recipes & finding their own ingredients was such fun for this troop! 🧑🏽‍🍳

They chose breakfast as their theme🥚so it was neat to put together a custom menu together that would suit their age, troop size & badge requirements.😊

Honored to teach these girls! 🙏🏽
