Siblings at birth ✨ one of the many beauties of Homebirth is that it’s family centered. Yes you can absolutely have your children present for birth and often times toddlers and kids do great at being mini doulas for their mama. Helping refill water, holding mamas hands and patting her on the back. We always recommend having a person whether it’s grandma or a friend, a “sibling doula” to help guide and care for your other little ones, so mama and her birthing partner can be focused on birth. 💗 did you have your other children at your birth?

So much gratitude to the families who allow us to serve them.✨ this sweet mama shared a beautiful testimonial with us as well as these gorgeous birth photos by “Serena and Sharon’s grounding and reassuring presence made me feel safe, seen, and validated throughout my pregnancy and labor. With Serena and Sharon’s care, I felt confident, respected, and given the space to let my birth happen the way my baby and body wanted it to. I am forever grateful to have their wealth of knowledge and listening ear thoughout my whole birth journey. What a blessing it has been to start our parenthood from a foundation of midwifery care that embraces us tenderly and empowers us boldly through such an otherwise vulnerable time of transition. Thank you for being our guides!”

Welcome little one! 💙🤍✨One of the sweetest things about Homebirth is that we can complete a gentle newborn exam right in the comfort of your own bed. Typically after delivering the placenta, we get mama and baby cozy and tucked into bed, encourage bonding time with both parents, allow for that first latch and breastfeeding to begin, allow mama to sip her tea and nourish herself after childbirth and once that first golden hour has passed and the cord cutting is complete, we walk you through the newborn exam right next to our new parents In bed. Here’s what you can expect during the newborn exam at home:
1. Vital Signs Assessment: We monitor your baby’s heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature to ensure they are stable.
2. Weight and Measurements: We’ll weigh your baby and measure their length and head circumference to track their growth.
3. Physical Examination: A thorough examination of your baby’s body, checking for any abnormalities, including the heart, lungs, abdomen, and reflexes.
4. Assessment of Skin Color and Tone: We evaluate your baby’s skin for any signs of jaundice or other conditions.
5. Monitoring Umbilical Cord: We check the umbilical stump for healing and signs of infection.
6. Screening for Birth Injuries: We look for any signs of bruising or injuries that may have occurred during delivery.
7. Feeding Assessment: Guidance and support for initiating feeding, whether breastfeeding or bottle-feeding. 8. Parental Guidance: Sharing important information for newborn care, including bathing, sleep safety, and milestones to watch for in the coming weeks.
9. Connection Time: Fostering those initial moments of bonding, encouraging skin-to-skin contact, and celebrating your family’s new addition. 10. Checking out the placenta, the beautiful and vital organ that sustained your baby these past months of pregnancy.

There is a moment in birth when the energy in the room shifts. The air feels thicker, almost dreamy. Voices begin to soften, and movement slows. It doesn’t matter how many births I have witnessed when a baby is close to arriving, something unmistakable takes over. A sacred portal opens. You can feel it in the room and in your body before you even understand it in your mind. The birthing mama is standing at a threshold of no longer who she was, and not yet who she is becoming. No matter how someone chooses to give birth .. in water or on land, at home or in a hospital, medicated or unmedicated getting to bring life into this world is an honor to do, and for us birth workers, a blessing to witness. Birth is not something to be managed or rushed through. It asks for presence, care, and patience. It asks us to listen. It asks us to trust the process unfolding rather than impose ourselves upon it. This is what reverence means to me.
It’s not about ceremony or perfection. It’s about how we show up. Reverence is slowing the room, lowering our voices, and remembering that this moment does not belong to us. It belongs to the mother, the partner, their baby, and the powerful transformation happening between them. When birth is held this way with deep respect, humility, and care it becomes more than an event to move through; it becomes a profound imprint on everyone present. And when we honor that imprint with care, patience, and trust, we help shape not only how a baby enters the world, but how a mother and family begin their life on the other side of birth.
