What we are doing here is so important,
We better
Not take it
Too
Seriously.
~Suzuki Roshi

This is the medicine I need on the Monday before Summer Solstice, the most Yang time of year during the Fire Horse year. I often find the medicine I need in a quote or a poem. There is a lot moving quickly. I need to remind myself to slow down and not take life or myself too seriously. Maybe even a catnap or two is required. I want to enjoy this yang time and not feel burned out by it. Laughter and rest. I know I can get caught up in it all and this quote is what I can go back to.

Pic: This is our cat Rafe/Pickles (he has 2 names) with my son. Rafe/Pickles was a feral cat who decided to adopt us. We got lucky. They both remind me to slow down, rest, and not take myself too seriously.

“Your body knows what it needs, deeply listening to your self will lead to deep healing that lasts.”

- These are things I say in the clinic all day long. Things I need to hear too. Very simple things, but things that can make powerful changes in our lives. Changes that get to the root of the problem. If any of this resonates for you, I’d love to help!

What is bringing me the most joy in my life right now? Spending time with my dad and watching him bond with my son. In Chinese medicine joy is the emotion related to summer and the fire element. This does not mean we will always feel joy in the summer, one summer I broke both of my arms at the same time, there was not a lot of joy that summer. This can also be a time when anxiety comes up or if there isn’t enough joy that can lead us into stagnation and depression. Because I have had my fair share of suffering and still do at times, I am deeply grateful for the joy when it comes. My dad let me know less than a month ago he’d be coming to visit for 3 weeks. He hasn’t been here for over a decade. He had only met my son once and I didn’t grow up seeing him very often and I felt abandoned and mad. There has been a lot of healing. To have this time with him now without anger and resentment is truly a gift. Due to the politics in Venezuela I don’t know if and when I will see him again so I am treasuring all of the moments. I am getting to really know him. I didn’t have any pictures of him and my mom together with me and I got one during this trip. He is a very kind and joyful person. If you aren’t feeling joy in this moment, may you meet whatever arises with kindness and may your heart stay open. Joy might be right around the corner, or in a book, a flower, a smile. It can show up as long as we do.

Patient Testimonial:

“When I was going through chronic respiratory illness and hormone imbalances, I felt completely hopeless in my body. Like nothing was working the way it was supposed to. I have been constantly sick for more than a year and was facing surgery for the first time. It was very scary and continues to be something that I deal with every day.
What made me feel hope and like I had regained some control of my health and well-being was meeting an incredible acupuncturist named Dr. Adrianna Gonzalez.
Working with her helped me reconnect with my body in a way I hadn’t experienced before. I learned all about how to keep my body in balance. I had felt so hopeless before that because I was not getting help or answers. I finally found someone who told me that we could do something. Working with her has been a miracle.”

-What I really love about this review is that she said WE could do something. WE did do something. She showed up and did the work too. True healing for me is about collaboration and empowerment. You deserve to feel your best and your body wants to heal and knows how to heal, it might just need some gentle reminders on how to get back on track. If you are ready to collaborate and work together please reach out. I'm here to help.

Pic: My son Zane and I taking care of his school garden together last summer. This garden is a collaboration of so many people. He knows dahlias are my favorite flowers. I can't believe he actually smiled for a photo. It's amazing what life can bring us when we just keep showing up for ourselves and others, one moment at a time.

I love treating migraines and headaches related to hormone shifts especially in perimenopause and menopausal women. Why do I love this? Well, I love treating women going through transitions and transitions are SO much harder when our bodies and minds are suffering. When we aren’t in pain transitions can be exciting and liberating. Hormonal headaches and migraines can be debilitating and Chinese medicine has many tools to treat them. Acupuncture and Chinese herbs are very effective and help many women who are struggling. Freedom from pain=freedom to do what you love!

Why do I still do what I do after 18 years? I love helping people with the tools of Chinese medicine. So many people don’t know how simple it can be to feel better in our bodies and minds. I feel nourished by the work I do. I get to say what I need to hear all day long. I get to witness small and powerful changes and small and big miracles all day long. Most of all I love to empower people to trust themselves and their bodies again and learn tools that they can use to help themselves and the people they love.

Last Sunday was Imbolc, the midpoint between the Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox, and also St. Brigid's Day. I had the joy of celebrating with an amazing group of women through song and ritual. Honoring the shifts of the seasons is one of my most cherished practices.
I love how this day aligns with Chinese cosmology, signifying a qi shift—the very beginning of spring—and the qi shifting into the Year of the Horse. In Chinese medicine, we're always observing cosmology and how it affects our body, mind, and spirit. The natural transitions the earth makes can guide and support the shifts we are wanting to make in our own lives.

On the new moon of February 17th, we'll be celebrating the Year of the Fire Horse—a significant and powerful transition! I invite you to check out my newsletter to explore Imbolc through the lens of Chinese medicine and learn how to prepare for the Year of the Horse.

May nature continue to guide and nourish us all.
