There are battles that seem unwinnable.
Standing on one side: billion-dollar organizations, political influence, media power, legal teams, and an abortion industry that has spent decades convincing America that ending innocent life is healthcare, empowerment, or even compassion.
Standing on the other: ordinary people.
A sidewalk counselor holding a sign and offering hope.
A former abortion worker telling the truth at great personal cost.
A mother choosing life despite fear and impossible circumstances.
A doctor refusing to compromise conscience.
An advocate standing before lawmakers.
A donor quietly giving so that someone else can continue the fight.
As 1 Corinthians 1:27 reminds us, what appears strong to the world is no match for what God chooses to use.
We could certainly use some encouragement this summer, so we are launching a new blog series at Desert Rose Women’s Resource Center: “Davids of the Pro-Life Movement.”
This series will highlight the courageous men and women who have stood—sometimes trembling, sometimes alone, but always faithfully—against the Goliath-sized forces of Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry.
Because the truth is, this movement has never been built on power. It has always been built on courage.
The Giants We Face:
Let’s be honest about the scale of the battle. The abortion industry is not a small opponent. It is organized, wealthy, politically connected, and deeply entrenched in our culture. Planned Parenthood alone has spent years cultivating influence through lobbying, media campaigns, litigation, and aggressive messaging designed to normalize abortion while marginalizing dissent.
Beyond Planned Parenthood is an entire ecosystem of organizations, activists, funders, and institutions committed to protecting abortion access at virtually any cost.
And they are skilled at making pro-life advocates seem outnumbered, outdated, or powerless.
That’s exactly how giants win. Not merely through force—but through intimidation. Goliath’s greatest weapon was not his size, it was fear. For forty days, the armies of Israel stood frozen, convinced the battle was already lost before it began.
Sound familiar?
Too often, pro-life Americans feel the same paralysis.
What difference can one person make?
How can a small ministry compete?
What can my donation possibly accomplish against organizations this large?
God Has Always Used the Unexpected
David was not the obvious choice. He was young, inexperienced, and overlooked. He had no military credentials, no armor and certainly no political backing.
But one thing David did have – conviction.
While everyone else measured Goliath’s strength, David measured God’s faithfulness.
The pro-life movement has always depended on people like that.
Not the loudest, not the wealthiest, not the most celebrated. Just faithful people willing to act.
History is full of them.
The whistleblower who exposed corruption.
The woman who walked away from the abortion industry and chose truth over comfort.
The counselor who saved one life on an ordinary Tuesday.
The legislator who stood firm under enormous pressure.
The donor who made sure a ministry could keep going when resources were thin.
These are the Davids.
And in this series, we will tell their stories.
Why These Stories Matter Now
We live in a cultural moment where discouragement comes easily.
Even after important legal victories, the fight is far from over. Abortion advocates are regrouping, expanding state-level efforts, increasing fundraising, and redoubling their messaging.
Meanwhile, many pro-life supporters feel exhausted. That exhaustion is exactly why stories of courage matter.
Because courage is contagious.
When we hear about one person standing faithfully, we remember that faithfulness is possible for us too.
When we see one individual confronting overwhelming opposition, we remember that giants can fall.
And when donors see what faithful action can accomplish, hope becomes renewed.
Desert Rose Women’s Resource Center’s Role in This Fight
Here in New Mexico, the battle for life is not abstract—it is unfolding in our own backyard. With abortion legal throughout pregnancy and state leaders committing $10 million each to build 2 new abortion centers in Las Cruces and Northern New Mexico, the abortion industry’s reach is expanding, not retreating. The giant we face is well-funded, politically empowered, and determined. Yet this is precisely the kind of battle where God has historically done His greatest work—using faithful, ordinary people to stand against what appears overwhelming. That is why Desert Rose Women’s Resource Center’s mission matters now more than ever.
We believe every life has immeasurable worth, but belief alone is not enough. Conviction must become action. This ministry exists because vulnerable women need real support. Because truth needs advocates. Because life needs defenders.
And because the giants are not backing down.
Neither can we.
The stories in this series are not merely inspiring biographies. They are reminders of what becomes possible when ordinary people say yes. Some of these Davids will be nationally known. Others may be people you’ve never heard of. But every one of them shares something essential: They stood when standing was costly.
