CELEBRATING LABOR DAY 2026- HONORING ALL THOSE THAT HAVE TO WORK FOR A LIVING - Are you part of the 99 ? Native Media Network

Dear Friends:
A lot has been said about the 1% and the affluent people over the past year.

Imagine a world of not having to work for a living, and your skills at planting, hunting, building, weaving, and creativity were enough to provide for your family, neighbors and community and you had plenty of time to celebrate the earth, your ancestors, tell stories, educate your kids, dance, sing …..

Believe it or not that is what being indigenous is all about, providing Food, Shelter and Fiber to enjoy the spiritual side of life.

IT EXISTED PRIOR TO THE COLONIAL ONSLAUGHT and the INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION

I often get criticized by telling people that if you punch a time card, you are enslaved to a system.

“THINK ABOUT IT” .

Labor day was legislated to honor the workers that lost their lives in a fire at the Triangle Shirt waist fire.

(Look it up at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triangle_Shirtwaist_Factory_fire . It is an interesting story of Labor and resistance to the existing usurious labor conditions.

WHAT HAPPENED ?
Politicians, Financiers, and Corporations found that Labor could be squeezed while the wealthy made more money.
The Trickle Down Theory of Economics was introduced so that the Wealthy would benefit from the economy, if they had more wealth.
Taxation was the key. Tax rates plummeted from 70% at the top rate to today with the tax loop holes the wealthy individuals and Corporations pay less than 15% for their share.

Some of the biggest offenders like Amazon, Apple, Alphabet, Meta, Tesla, Walmart, pay 0% with the money transferred to Off Shore Accounts .

Income generated by taxation to keep the government and social programs running no longer covers the costs, so we are being forced to borrow money with interest to sustain its operation.
The USA is currently $40 TRILLION IN DEBT AND PAYS OUT $1 TRILI0N IN INTEREST EVERY YEAR.

The Government is spending $6.3 Trillion and expects to receive $4.5 trillion in taxes that is $1.8 trillion shortfall.

The solution offered by the right-wing administration is to cut benefits that sustain the Laborers to keep the wealthy going. WRONG ANSWER.

The ONLY answer to relieve the current economic woes is to raise taxes on the wealthy and collect taxes from the biggest corporations that pay next to nothing.

The taxation during Pres. Eisenhower’s post WWII administration was 90% at the top. What followed was the greatest economic boom of the 50’s and 60’s that the US economy made it into a World Super Power.

I like simple - Increased taxes on the Wealthy and Corporations & Increase benefits to Labor = Economic Prosperity

NO POLITICS INTENDED, but RESIST – Make Corporations and the Wealthy accountable for equitable wage distribution - VOTE !!!!

“There is No Power, Like the Power of the People, When the Power of the People is Unleashed”.

INCREASED TAXES ON THE WEALTHY + INCREASED BENEFITS TO LABOR = ECONOMIC PROSPERITY

Tecumseh’s Vision came alive this past Weekend !!!

Dear Friends:
Tecumseh envisioned a large independent Indigenous nation or confederacy that stretched across the Great Lakes, the Ohio River Valley, and the Americas.

His vision of united warriors and communities from the Shawnee, Delaware, Wyandot, Miami, Ojibwe, Ottawa, and all Indigenous nations joining together and meeting to establish a confederacy free of the colonial onslaught.

Tecumseh’s Vision lives on in the POW WOW tradition.

POW WOW itself comes from an Algonquian word (pau wau) originally meaning a spiritual leader or healing ceremony, a community gathering with an intentional coming together of people in a shared space to connect, share experiences, meet old friends, make new ones, honor family bonds, build lasting relationships, pass down songs, stories, and pride to younger generations and compete in Hand Games, Drums & Singing, Dancing & Regalia,

A country where insulin costs more than a car payment and people are rationing it to survive. A country where medical debt is the number 1 cause of bankruptcy. And you're calling Greenland poorly run?
Greenland has universal healthcare. Free education. One of the lowest incarceration rates in the world. Nobody goes bankrupt there because they got sick. Nobody dies in a waiting room because their insurance said no.

'NATO wasn't there when we needed them." When exactly was that, champ? September 11? Because NATO invoked Article 5 for the first and only time in history FOR YOU. Soldiers from dozens of countries deployed, fought, bled, and died in Afghanistan FOR YOU. Australia wasn't even in NATO and we still showed up. For 20 years.

Not being a pessimist and as an activist, I always look for a solution. The solution is simple VOTE to throw the bums OUT.

There are 217 million people registered to vote in the last election and only 158 million people voted. 92 million people said “Whatever”

We now have a problem with a President, Representatives, Senators that are choosing self interest over the “Peoples Interest”

The Agenda has already been defined by the Activist of the 70’s, 80’ and 90’s and has been codified in the U.N Declaration of Indigenous Peoples Rights that not only chronicles the Wisdom of the Elders and protects the Rights of all PEOPLES.

The Wisdom of the Elders from beginningless time

Dear Friends
Like yourself I have been experiencing a see-saw of emotions balance between seeking happiness and dispelling despair.
I would like to thank Jay Stone for posting his Art and Story

****THE TURTLE WHO CARRIED TWO WORLDS ****
Between fire and ice, the oldest spirit keeps the universe in balance.
Before the stars were given names,
before the rivers learned to run,
a great turtle crossed the darkness,
carrying both moon and sun.

Fire burned along one side,
while winter crowned the other blue.
Yet neither power fought for heaven—
each gave the other space to move.
Upon his shell, the seasons rested.
Day and night slept side by side.

Every mark became a story;
every circle turned like time.
The elders heard him in their dreaming,
moving slowly through the sky.

He spoke without a voice or language,
yet their spirits knew his reply:
“Do not curse the cold within you.

Do not fear your inner flame.
Light and shadow shape one spirit;
both are sacred, both the same.”
He carried sorrow without breaking.
He carried joy without false pride.
For wisdom is the quiet center
where opposing rivers meet inside.

The sun taught courage to his footsteps.
The moon taught patience to his soul.
One gave strength to face the journey;
one gave silence to become whole.

A thousand generations vanished,
yet still the ancient turtle moved.

He showed that life was never hurried,
and sacred truth need not be proved.
When anger rises like a wildfire,
call upon the cooling rain.
When fear becomes a frozen darkness,
wake the hidden sun again.

For healing lives within the balance—
not in choosing dark or bright,
but in honoring every season,
every wound and every light.

So when your world divides before you
and you cannot choose a side,
remember how the turtle carries
two eternal worlds with equal pride.

Hold both shadow and flame in your soul.
The spirit finds its greatest power
when every broken half becomes whole.”
