For some of us, summer and the hot weather can be a triggering time of year.
There are lots of different reasons for this, but some of those might be that you have body image issues which are made worse by people wearing less clothes around you - and the pressure that you need to wear less, that you are under financial stress and can’t afford things like holidays, social events or cooling appliances, it could be that you have an illness that is worsened by the heat, that you have scars on your body you don’t wish to be seen, that you simply do not like feeling hot and sweaty, or perhaps that your social anxiety is heightened by all the “summer invites”
I wanted to try and normalise these triggers for you - it doesn’t make you miserable, bad, or a ‘party pooper’ if you don’t enjoy summer - each year we get bombarded with social pressure to love the sun, the heat and the longer days, but for many of us, we just don’t, and not only can it be hard to experience, but it can really make our mental and physical health symptoms worse.
So for all my hot weather haters out there, I see you.
Grab an ice pack, have a cold drink, and do what you can to keep yourself safe.
