Really appreciated this part of the episode!

While so much of the media is still wearing out the same tired allergy jokes, we can count on Ted Lasso to get it right. 🙌

(Mild spoiler for S4E8, “Follow the Anger” 👇)

After Gemma is injured, Rebecca sends her a lovely, well-meaning gift basket, full of gourmet nuts. Gemma is allergic. She mentions it to a friend who tells Rebecca.

And here’s what I love: Rebecca simply receives it. No defensiveness. No “well, how was I supposed to know?” No making her own good intentions the point or centering her feelings. She finds out what Gemma can actually enjoy, shows up with a new basket that’s safe for her, and apologizes.

That’s it. No drama. No one making fun of her. No one treating her allergy like it’s her whole personality or a burden on everyone else. Just a full, complete character who happens to have food allergies, and a group of people who treat that with respect and don’t think twice about including her and keeping her safe.

Plenty of therapists have been (rightly!) celebrating how this show models regulation, repair, and emotional support. I had to pop on and applaud this piece, too. 👏👏👏

For those of us living with food allergies, being safe and seen without being made into a spectacle matters so much. And watching someone repair a mistake with warmth instead of shame is a beautiful model for all of us, allergic or not.

This is the kind of allergy content we need more of. 🩵

Found these Uglies Snacks kettle chips at my local Bristol Farms market. I am so happy too see that under the ingredient list it says that, “this product is manufactured in a nut free facility”. So there is no risk of peanuts or cross contamination from peanuts. Second photo shows the bag’s label. Although the bag also has a symbol of a nut with a line through it that does not mean nut free facility, that just implies the food does not contain nuts as an intentionally added ingredient. So I’m really happy to see the sentence about the facility that makes it clear these chips are safe for me to enjoy.

Please be aware! RAID brand ant bait has peanut butter in it! They do not disclose this on the box because it is not a food and they don’t have to. But if you visit their website the full ingredients of the ant bait is listed and peanut butter is the main added ingredient, it’s what is used to entice the ants to eat the bait.

I came home from work the other night and there were sooo many ants out of nowhere in my apartment. I went to cvs and bought the raid brand ant baits. After putting them out I started to feel like there was a funny smell in the air and then my throat felt funny and I was having a hard time breathing.

I didn’t honestly even think I was reacting to the ant bait. After all I had read the box when I bought it and didn’t notice anything about peanut butter. But I had this funny feeling about it and I looked up the full ingredients on the SC Johnson website. I was absolutely shocked to see that the added ingredient is peanut butter and peanut oil! After I realized it was the ant bait I had to keep calm, put on gloves and I threw out all the ant baits. I cleaned the carpet where I had placed the baits with Clorox wipes and I turned up my air purifier and tried my best to get the smell out of my apartment.

It was honestly a scary experience because I just didn’t know what was happening and why I was reacting. When I realized it was the bait that I was reacting too I was so upset that here I am doing everything I can to stay safe and yet I unknowing brought home something that contained peanut butter and put it out in my apartment. Thank goodness once I threw out the baits I started to be able to breathe better and the reaction did not progress.

This was a real reminder that peanut butter can be in literally anything.

Ground Up PDX had been my go to for tree-nut butters for years because they have a peanut free facility. Although they are making their new peanut butter in a separate facility this is what their faq section says:

Our peanut butters are manufactured in a separate facility from our signature tree nut butters. However, all products are stored and shipped from the same fulfillment facility. We take care to minimize the potential for cross-contact during handling, but because peanut and tree nut products are fulfilled from the same location, we cannot guarantee the absence of peanut exposure. If you have a severe peanut allergy, please use your best judgment and consult your healthcare provider if you have questions.

I’m very sad to see this… 😔I’ll be moving Ground Up to my Not Safe list on my website www.nopeanutfoods.com I would never eat a food or recommend it if there is any risk of going into anaphylactic shock from cross contamination from peanuts.

This also stands as a reminder that ingredients and facilities change. Always check a product’s label every time and when you’re not completely sure either skip it or reach out to the brand and ask. Don’t be afraid to speak up and trust your instincts.

Found these Roots Chips at Erewhon Market and they are absolutely delicious! I picked them up because I love purple potatoes and they are cooked in avocado oil which I was so happy to see. I saw that the label said that they are top 9 allergen free so I quickly pulled up the faq page on the Roots Chips website. It shares that, “our chips flavors are free from all 9 major allergens -wheat, peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, fish, eggs, milk, sesame, and soybeans. Our chip facility is an allergen free facility, dedicated to only producing Roots Chips”. Second photo shows their website’s faq section, third the beautiful purple chips and fourth the bag’s label.

I couldn’t wait to try these and they didn’t disappoint. They are soooo good🤩! I saw they have other flavors so I’ll be going back to try more. I’m so excited to have found these chips! Thank you Roots Chips for having facility free of the top 9 allergens and clearly sharing this info.

Happy to find these new JonnyPops at my local Whole Foods Market. The front of the box and the back label clearly states that they are, “made in a peanut free facility”, see the second pic for the box label. My favorite Jonny Pops are the Chocolate Fudge but I saw these and they have coconut water, added electrolytes and fruit juice, making these perfect for warm summer days☀️😎

Found these Like Air Snacks at my favorite local market Bob’s Market and they look so good! The bag clearly states that they are made in a nut free facility, so there is no risk of peanuts or cross contamination from peanuts. Loving these special star shaped Pretzelized crackers for 4th of July. Hope everyone is having a fun and safe 4th of July holiday🇺🇸. I find these crackers at my local Whole Foods Market.

The label clearly states that they are, “Produced in a facility that DOES NOT process peanuts and tree nuts”, see the second pic for the box label. Thank you Pretzelized Snacks for having a peanut and tree nut free facility!

I am officially obsessed with the Free2b Foods Company Sea Salt Caramel Cups, they are soooo delicious 😋 ! Their products and their facility are peanut free so there is no risk of cross contamination. Also, “we take the safety of our customers with food allergies very seriously here at Free2b. Our production facility is free of the top 9 food allergens, mustard, and added sulfites, as are our products.“ Thank you Free2b for understanding food allergies and having a facility free of peanuts along with the top 9 allergens.
