Michele Hahn, JD, MFT Couples Therapist Life is beautiful and complex. Seeking therapy is a one way to help yourself navigate through some of life's more challenging and mysterious experiences.

My professional and personal framework to be a happier and more fulfilled therapist and human:

1. Let Go

“Every time you are tempted to react in the same old way, ask if you want to be a prisoner of the past or a pioneer of the future.”

2. Nothing Is Impossible

“You must find the place inside yourself where nothing is impossible.”

3. Embrace the Unknown.

“Even when you think you have your l

ife all mapped out, things happen that shape your destiny in ways you might never have imagined.”

4. Go with the Flow

“Don't try to steer the river.”

5. Embrace Stillness

“In the midst of movement and chaos, keep stillness inside of you.”

6. Live a Conscious Life

“The way you think, the way you behave, the way you eat, can influence your life by 30 to 50 years.”

7. Find Your Purpose

“There are no extra pieces in the universe. Everyone is here because he or she has a place to fill, and every piece must fit itself into the big jigsaw puzzle.”

8. Let Go of Your Ego

“If you want to reach a state of bliss, then go beyond your ego and the internal dialogue. Make a decision to relinquish the need to control, the need to be approved, and the need to judge. Those are the three things the ego is doing all the time. ”

9. Embrace Your Current Relationships

“Whatever relationships you have attracted in your life at this moment, are precisely the ones you need in your life at this moment. There is a hidden meaning behind all events, and this hidden meaning is serving your own evolution.”

10. Be Open To All Possibilities

“Even when you think you have your life all mapped out, things happen that shape your destiny in ways you might never have imagined.”

So grateful to do the work I love: helping couples in California and Oregon slow down, reconnect, communicate more honestly, and find their way back to each other. Watching people move from disconnection and hurt toward understanding and healing is something I never take for granted!

I became a couples therapist because I grew up watching conflict tear down connection in my own home. Early on, I became fascinated with one question: *Why do people who love each other struggle so deeply to understand each other?*

Now I help couples turn painful communication patterns (or fight cycles) into emotional connection. Partners learn how to truly hear each other, rebuild trust, deepen empathy, and become aligned instead of divided.

Because I believe conflict itself isn’t the problem... unresolved conflict is. When couples learn how to repair, relationships can become stronger than before.

Major changes such as marriage, shifting careers or settling into a new home significantly impact us. These transitions may cause us a great deal of stress and may affect our overall well-being.

So here's your reminder: don't be too hard on yourself during these changes and extend grace and self-compassion.

The more we try and resist these changes, the harder it takes us to adjust and cope with the situation.

If you are dealing with these changes with your partner, it's helpful to talk it out. State your worries, your expectations, and the things you are looking forward to.

Have you gone through major changes in your life recently? Let me know!

When sitting through difficult conversations, try to remember to:

🤔 Choose the appropriate time to talk. Set aside a time for the both of you to be physically and mentally prepared to talk it out.

🤔 Start on a positive note. Thank your partner for the chance to have this talk. Allow yourself to listen and understand new ideas and perspectives.

🤔 Stay focused -one problem at a time. Overwhelming yourselves with tons of issues at one sitting will exhaust both of you.

🤔 Avoid selective listening. Filtering out what you hear for the discussion to be on your side will lead to accusations and blaming. Put yourself in the position of listening to understand, not to reply.

The more you sit and find compromise in difficult conversations, the more you gain clarity and understanding between you and your partner.

Getting out in nature🌳, even if it's your local park, does wonders for your soul. I had an impromptu picnic lunch 🍓in the park with a dear friend from my childhood the other day. Felt like we were on vacation chatting in the shade while enjoying a nice breeze.

Simple pleasures are more important than ever these days🌿

Hope you're able to find a moment of peace in these trying times.

So what's the difference?

❤️➡️ Doing things from love means it is entirely voluntary, without any expectations in return. You do something because you genuinely love the person and are willing to do things just because you know it will feel good to your partner.

➡️❤️ Doing things for love indicates that you are somehow expecting something, maybe the same passion in return or validation that you are a good partner or ? And, if you don’t receive what you’re expecting, it creates room for doubt and fight.

Knowing the difference between the two is a relationship changer.

Do you do things from love? Or for love?

Forgiveness goes hand in hand with love. In fact, forgiveness is a manifestation of love. ❤️

When a couple is in a disagreement, unforgiveness serves as a wall that prevents both from connecting. This creates room for grudges, resentment and eventually will likely be the cause of the relationship's downfall.

On the other hand, forgiveness serves as a bridge for closeness, humbleness and growth. But it's not that easy, but remember forgiveness is liberating!
