Kind Like Kyla

Kind Like Kyla Kind Like Kyla will be used to keep friends, family and followers updated on sweet Kyla's journey.

Sometimes the biggest victories don’t come with fireworks.

Sometimes they come in a quiet room, waiting for a doctor to walk through the door with the words you’ve been waiting to hear.

“Scans are beautifully boring.”

Those words will never become ordinary to us. Jeff was on FaceTime waiting to hear how our daughter’s scans were, I was anxious, but my gosh imagine how he felt.

After a week packed with MRIs, appointments, and check-ups, we’re overjoyed to share that Kyla’s MRI of her brain and spine was STABLE!! 💛

I know we posted a little later than usual, but these weeks are mentally and physically exhausting. They bring back memories we’d rather leave behind while reminding us just how far our brave girl has come.

When you look at Kyla today, you see a smiling little girl.

What you don’t immediately see is the brain surgeries… the radiation… the chemotherapy… the endless hospital stays… the therapies… the appointments… and the lifelong challenges she continues to face because of childhood brain cancer.

But she carries it all with a smile that somehow shines brighter than the hardest days.

We couldn’t be more proud of her.

This trip also filled our hearts in so many other ways. We were happy to see our friend Sam from Jamaica after not seeing him for a few years, spent a brief moment with Connor and his parents, another medulloblastoma survivor, and made some wonderful new friends who understand this journey in ways few people can. 🫶🎗️

Then came one of our favorite parts…

We spent the weekend in Knoxville with Chance and his awesome parents, Trish and Benny. To celebrate his 10th birthday and him being 5 years out from his diagnosis.

Watching Kyla and Chance together is something that’s difficult to put into words.
Their friendship is built on courage, resilience, and understanding. This weekend, their bond grew even stronger, and seeing them laughing, playing, making memories, and simply being kids warmed our mama hearts more than we can describe.

After everything they’ve both endured, seeing joy come so naturally to them is a reminder that hope is stronger than fear.

To everyone who has prayed, followed Kyla’s journey, celebrated the victories, and carried us through the hard days… Thank You!

Every stable scan is another chance to make more memories.

Another chance to watch Kyla’s childhood unfold.

Another reminder that miracles don’t always look spectacular.

Sometimes they simply look like a little girl smiling.

And today, that’s everything.

💛 One more stable MRI…
💛 One more year closer to five years cancer-free…
💛 One incredibly brave little girl who continues to amaze us every single day!

Whoops…. I always post saying we are hitting the road but I guess with all the packing and trying to get around all of the tourists leaving the beach I forgot 🤦‍♀️

After a 10 hour drive we made it to St Jude and just as we were coming through the guard gate to Tri Delta, Trish, Benny and Chance were getting off of the shuttle in front of us.
Kyla and Kaydn were so excited to see Chance and Kyla hopped out of the car so fast when I’d parked to be able to give her buddy a big ole hug.

We are so very tired, so very, very, tired. But we made it here safely and will be starting the day off early with Kyla’s first appointment at 8am for her IV placement.

Wish her luck, peace, calm, all the great things for the IV to go well on the first try!

This weekend we’ll be packing up and making the drive from Florida to Memphis, Tennessee, ready for another week at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 💛🎗️

This trip it’ll be just myself (mom), Kyla, and her big brother, Kaydn, making the journey together. Sadly, we’ll be leaving Jeff (dad) behind this time, but we’ll be FaceTiming often, and we’ll definitely be missing him while we’re away.

Monday starts bright and early with an 8:00 a.m. appointment to have Kyla’s IV placed before her brain and spine MRI.
If you’ve followed our journey for a while, you’ll know that getting an IV has always been one of Kyla’s biggest fears. It’s never easy, but on our last visit she absolutely amazed us, she was so brave and didn’t need to be held down at all. We were incredibly proud of her, and we’re hoping this time goes just as smoothly.
After her MRI, we’ll meet with her clinic team that afternoon to go over the scan results before diving into a jam-packed schedule of appointments through Thursday morning.

It’s hard to believe these are her 4-year post-treatment follow-up appointments.

…. FOUR YEARS!!

It’s incredible, humbling, and honestly a little surreal to say those words. Every follow-up brings us one step closer to the milestone we’ve been praying for, five years post-treatment!
If all continues to go well, next year we’ll be able to say the words we’ve dreamed of hearing for so long……… Kyla is cancer free.
We never take these milestones for granted.

As always, we’d love your prayers and positive thoughts for easy IV placement, clear scans, good results, and a smooth week.

If you know Kyla, you’ll know this is one trip she genuinely looks forward to. St. Jude is her happy place 🫶
The nurses, therapists, and doctors have become like family, and she has such a special bond with so many of them.

She’s also counting down the days until she gets to see her best friend, Captain Chance, who will be there for his own 4-year checkups too.

Thank you, as always, for loving our girl, cheering her on, and keeping her in your prayers. Here’s to another week of hope, gratitude, and celebrating just how far she’s come. 💛

It has only taken us 4 years but Kyla is finally able to get a poke or IV without having to be held down 🥳👏🏻🙌🏻🎉
Kyla gets nightly shots of growth hormones but this afternoon she had to get some blood drawn to check her growth hormone levels.

We are so proud of her!!
