Have you ever prayed for your headache to just go away β€” without ever asking WHY it's there in the first place? As a PT and a pastor, this is one of the most common questions I get, and it applies to way more than just headaches.

When someone walks into my clinic and says "my head hurts," we don't just start grabbing and treating the symptom. We look for the system causing the problem. Your prayer life deserves the same approach. Pain is a signal β€” not just something to pray away, but something to pray through.

Instead of only asking God to remove it, try asking: "God, what are you wanting me to pray about? What's really going on here?" That shift could change the way you see your whole life, not just your health. Tomorrow I'm covering what to do when you've done everything right and the issue still won't go away β€” stay tuned πŸ‘‡

You might be praying wrong β€” and it's not your fault. Most people picture prayer like shooting arrows at God, hoping something sticks. But that's not what Scripture actually shows.

As a church planter and a PT who treats headaches for a living, I get this question constantly: can I pray my headache away? Short answer β€” yes, but we have to look at what that actually means, and why so many prayers seem to go unanswered.

Real prayer isn't a guess. It begins with God, moves through the Holy Spirit, and returns to Him as a petition β€” which means our prayers work best when they're spoken within His will, not just shouted into the void.

So before you pray today: are you shooting arrows, or are you asking God what He wants you to pray for first? Sit with that. More on why prayers go unanswered, next time.

Can you actually pray your headache away?

I'm a physical therapist with over 30 years treating chronic pain β€” headaches and jaw pain specifically. I also hold a Doctor of Ministry degree and I'm a church planter. So I get this question from both sides, almost every day.

Theology and medicine aren't opposed here β€” they work together. Over the next several videos, we're taking an honest look at both sides of this question: can prayer actually take the pain away? Follow along as we dig into what's medically true, what's spiritually true, and how they meet.

PT by license, church planter by calling.

Headache symptoms overlap more than people realize. Pain wrapping around the back of your neck and around your eye isn't automatically a migraine β€” it can be an occipital headache, and if you don't know which of the drivers is actually causing yours, you'll waste time and energy fixing the wrong thing.

Find your driver with my free quiz β€” link in bio. Takes less than 2 minutes. Reply FINALLY and I'll send it your way πŸ‘‡

Headaches that start at the base of your skull and wrap around through your eyes? Here's the fix.

1️⃣ Massage the base of your skull in small circles for 1-2 minutes, a couple times a day
2️⃣ Chin tucks β€” pull your chin straight back, hold for 5 seconds, 20-30 reps, twice a day

Most people feel relief within 5-7 days.

Save this for the next time your head starts pounding, and follow for more pain-relief tips.

Pain on the side of your head? It might be your temporalis muscle. 🧠
This muscle runs from your hairline down behind your cheekbone to your main chewing muscle β€” when it's tight, it refers pain right into that side-of-head headache.

Quick self-treatment: grab a cold jade facial roller (Dollar General/Walmart, a few bucks) and roll from your hairline down to your cheek with moderate pressure for a couple minutes. No need to dig in hard. Do it 2x/day for a week and you should notice relief.

Save this for the next time a side headache hits. πŸ‘†

Pain at the base of your skull, right behind the ears? That's your suboccipital muscle group β€” and it's one of the biggest hidden drivers of tension headaches. Hours of forward head posture (phones, laptops, desks) keep it chronically shortened and irritated, and it refers pain straight up into your head.

Most people chase the headache and never find this muscle.

That headache that starts at the base of your skull and wraps around your eye? Most people call it a migraine β€” it's often not. It's the suboccipital muscles referring pain around that whole area, and it's a huge piece of what we call cervicogenic headache.

A lot of it traces back to posture β€” all that forward head position from phones and screens ("tech neck") puts constant tension on those muscles. Taking frequent breaks to reset your posture can make a real difference.

But the real fix starts with knowing what's actually driving YOUR headache. Follow for more on how to figure out the true cause so you can treat it β€” not just manage it. 🧠

Not every headache is a migraine β€” there's a lot of overlap in symptoms, which is exactly why it's easy to get misdiagnosed.
TMJ dysfunction refers pain into places most people would never connect to the jaw β€” temples, behind the eyes, even down the neck. If you're treating it like a migraine, you're treating the wrong thing.

That's why it matters to actually find out what's causing yours.

Migraine? Nope. TMJ? Nope. Neck? Nope. "Stress"? πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ
Most headaches get mislabeled because nobody traces where the pain actually starts. Different causes = different fixes.

If you never treat the right kind, it never gets fixed.
