Mom’s Monday 📝Notes
On 7/1/2004 my momma wrote:
“Why do we allow the shadows of our long ago to darken our today?”

In recovery, this question invites us to examine how often we continue to live under the influence of old wounds, old mistakes, old regrets, and old stories about ourselves.

Many of us spent years carrying shame from our past. We replay conversations we wish we could change, decisions we wish we had never made, and consequences we wish we could erase. But recovery teaches us that while we cannot rewrite yesterday, we do have a choice about how much power we give it today.

The shadows of our past only remain dark when we continue to stand in them.

Healing begins when we acknowledge our history without allowing it to define our future. The lessons of yesterday can guide us, but they were never meant to imprison us. Recovery is about stepping into the light of today—one day, one choice, one moment at a time.

Your past may explain you, but it does not have to control you.

Today is a gift. Don’t allow old shadows to steal today’s sunshine.

Reflection Question:
What part of your past are you still allowing to darken your present, and what would it look like to step into the light today?

❤️ Recovery reminds us that we are not who we were—we are who we are becoming.

Dancing with Imposter Syndrome

Ever feel like everyone else “gets it”… and you’re just trying not to miss a step?

That’s imposter syndrome.
That quiet voice whispering:
“You don’t belong here.”
“They’re going to figure you out.”
“Who do you think you are?”

Recovery can feel like that too.

Walking into a meeting.
Setting a boundary.
Posting your truth.
Starting over again.

And somehow that voice says, “You’re not doing recovery right.”

But here’s the tango:
Recovery was never about perfection. It was never about performing. It’s about showing up—awkward, shaky, honest—and taking the next right step anyway.

You don’t have to feel confident to belong here.
You don’t have to have it all together to heal.
You don’t have to earn your seat at the table.

You’re not an imposter in recovery.
You’re a human learning a new rhythm—and that counts.

Keep dancing. Even if you’re stepping on your own toes a little today. 💚

Mom’s Monday Notes 💚
On 9/30/98 my mother wrote:
“The greater part of our happiness or misery depends on our dispositions and not our circumstances.”
Recovery teaches us that freedom doesn’t always begin when our circumstances change… it often begins when we do.
We can spend years waiting for life to feel easier.
For people to understand us.
For the pain to stop.
For the circumstances around us to finally feel “right.”
But recovery gently—and sometimes firmly—shows us that peace isn’t always found by changing what’s happening around us… it’s found by changing our disposition within it.
Our willingness.
Our perspective.
Our gratitude.
Our surrender.
Our next right choice.
Two people can walk through the same storm—one feeling defeated, the other finding strength they didn’t know they had.
That’s the power of recovery:
Not that life suddenly becomes perfect…but that we begin to respond differently.
And sometimes that shift in our disposition changes everything.

Today ask yourself:
Am I waiting for my circumstances to change… or am I allowing recovery to change me within them❓❓
