Most conversations about sleep focus on routines.
Earlier bedtime.
Blackout curtains.
White noise.
The perfect bedtime routine.
And while those things can absolutely help, there’s another piece of the puzzle that often gets overlooked:
🧠 The nervous system.
Sleep isn’t simply something we do, it’s a neurological state the body has to be able to enter.
When a child’s nervous system is overwhelmed, stressed, or struggling to regulate, settling into restful sleep can be harder. That’s why some kids seem exhausted yet still can’t fall asleep. Or wake frequently throughout the night.
Sometimes the question isn’t:
“What’s wrong with their sleep?”
It’s:
“How is their nervous system adapting?”
Looking deeper often changes the conversation. 💛
