Child Parent Institute Building brighter futures for our children and families. Approximately 65% of CPI employees are bi-lingual (Spanish speaking).

Founded in 1978, the California Parenting Institute (CPI) has served thousands of Sonoma County families with parent education and mental health services to both prevent and treat child abuse. In that time, CPI has expanded enormously to meet an increasing demand for services to high-risk families. This expansion, which has included a merger in 2005 with the county’s leading provider of therapy to

child victims of abuse, has created the need for a central family resource center, the G.K. Hardt Center located in Southwest Santa Rosa, where clients can receive a broad continuum of services at a centrally-located, accessible facility. CPI has a well-respected tenure of success, developing and implementing programs and services available to all families. Additionally, CPI is dedicated to providing services that meet the needs of Sonoma County's diverse communities and has developed a staff and Board of Directors that mirror the demographics and unique characteristics of the region. CPI provides leadership in community education and advocacy for children by coordinating the Prevent Child Abuse-Sonoma County (PCA-SC) as well as serving on the Greater Bay Area Coalition of Child Abuse Prevention Councils, the Child Death Review Team, the Maternal Child Adolescent Health Committee, the Perinatal Mental Health Partnership, Family Violence Prevention Committee and the Santa Rosa Mayor’s Gang Task Force.

Last Friday we celebrated the groundbreaking of CPI’s new Community Cooling Center—a major milestone in creating a safer, healthier, and more resilient future for our community.

This special moment recognized the many partners, community leaders, funders, and project team members whose dedication, collaboration, and hard work helped bring this vision to life. Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating this historic milestone
including Santa Rosa Community Health, City of Santa Rosa Emergency Preparedness, AAA Energy systems, Health Equity Rising, California's Governor's Office of Planning and Research. Sonoma County, Supervisor Chris Coursey, California Strategic Growth Council, State Assemblymember Chris Rogers Office, Community Foundation of Sonoma County, Sonoma County Human Services Department, Gov. Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation, and Persingers Architects.

Something new is coming to CPI! Join us to learn about what is coming to the neighborhood.

Information and Listening Session
Tuesday, April 28th
6:00 - 7:00pm
3642 Standish Ave, Santa Rosa, CA

-At this event we will talk about:
What a Community Resilience Center is.
-What a Cooling Center is.
-Extreme heat and emergency preparedness.
-Services for families and children.
-Upcoming Leadership Academy to become leaders in your neighborhood

We will also hold a listening session to hear from you and gather community feedback. Raffles, food, and drinks will be provided. If you need childcare, please let us know so we can make arrangements.

Come learn, share your ideas, and help us build a center that supports our community.

In 1989, the Blue Ribbon Campaign to Prevent Child Abuse began when a grandmother in Virginia created it to honor her grandson, whose life was tragically cut short by abuse.

Each April, during National Child Abuse Prevention Month, communities come together to highlight the importance of working collectively to prevent child abuse maltreatment and to help families thrive.

In Sonoma County alone, there were 9,048 reports of child abuse last year, with 167 cases confirmed.

At the Child Parent Institute, we are dedicated to ending child abuse and strengthening the well-being of children, parents and families. In partnership with Prevent Child Abuse - Sonoma County, we host a range of events throughout the year to raise awareness and underscore the urgent need for prevention.
