Builds strength, flexibility, co-ordination, balance, endurance, concentration, fluidity, control, centering, precision, and cardio-vascular stamina. Produces long, lean, supple muscles, which helps prevent injury and tension, reducing stress and fatigue. Improves focus and energy stores by integrating the mind and body through deep breathing and concentrated movement performance. Concentrates on

the “core” muscles (abdomen, pelvis, and back) which help restore good posture and promotes functional and efficient movement mechanics. Teaches you not to strain your muscles, but to enjoy the movements as you stretch and strengthen them. Benefits ALL fitness levels, professions, and daily activity function.

This!!! Exactly what I’ve been thinking and expressing as I try to pass on the quality, essence, and traditions that make a Pilates practice so powerful and inspiring! I’m hoping this wins over the trends and commercialism as we move forward. 🙏🏻

Pilates is not Reformer.

And that is exactly where the industry needs to pause and reflect.

According to a recent article, reformer bookings are up 66 percent and studio startups have increased by an astonishing 948 percent. But growth does not automatically mean quality. Popularity is not the same as standards, and visibility is not the same as depth. What we are seeing in many spaces today is not always the Pilates method in its true form, but a watered-down version shaped by trends, aesthetics, and fast results.

Pilates is a system. It is a discipline.

It is a method built on principles, purpose, progression, and an understanding of the body that goes far beyond one piece of apparatus.
When Pilates becomes reduced to “doing Reformer,” we lose something important. We lose the richness of the method. We lose the connection between the apparatus. We lose the educational depth that allows teachers to truly understand the body in front of them. And most concerning of all, we risk losing the standards that protect both the method and the people we teach.

A fully trained Pilates teacher understands that the Reformer is only one part of a much bigger picture. True teaching requires knowledge, discernment, observation, and respect for the work. It asks more of us than performance. It asks us to choose depth over trends, substance over hype, and integrity over popularity.

At Anita Horry Academy, we believe Pilates is not a trend to be marketed, but a method to be preserved, studied, and taught with care. We are here for teachers who want to choose depth over trends, who value real education over shortcuts, and who understand that the future of Pilates depends on maintaining standards, not diluting them.

✨ If you are ready to teach Pilates with depth, integrity, and real understanding, we are here to support you.

~In my dance classes you will experience an eclectic modern dance style and vocabulary influenced by the greats like Duncan, Graham, Limòn and Taylor. My choreography is athletic, releasing, dramatic, and humorous, accessible and inspiring to ALL levels of dancer.

~In my Pilates class you will experience both classical and contemporary approaches with a strong focus on the functional application of good posture and good body mechanics in daily life, accessible to ALL bodies and fitness levels.

~During my 28 year teaching career (with 22 years as a Pilates studio owner), I also incorporate many mind body conditioning methods and concepts, such as influences from Yoga, Alexander, and Feldenkrais traditions.

~My class environment is welcoming and inclusive. My goal is to inspire the beginning dancer/exerciser to feel comfortable enough to work hard and take risks outside of their comfort zone. This approach is also relevant to the more intermediate advanced mover to work HARDER and take MORE risks. I strive to connect with students with a good since of humor and easy going no BS nature, while staying in tune with and understanding of the student mindset and modern day challenges.
