Many people come into my office frustrated because they have symptoms that affect their daily lives, yet their lab work appears normal.

As I shared in this week's live discussion, functional medicine looks beyond the diagnosis and asks a deeper question:

Why is this happening?

Instead of focusing solely on symptoms, we explore the underlying patterns that may be contributing to fatigue, digestive issues, inflammation, hormonal imbalances, pain, brain fog, and other chronic concerns.

This approach doesn't replace conventional medicine—it complements it by helping us understand the whole person.

If you've ever felt like your symptoms weren't being fully explained, this conversation is for you.

Watch the replay and let me know what resonated most with you.

Your anxiety may not be “just in your head.”

Sometimes, it may be your body asking you to listen more deeply.

In Chinese medicine, anxiety, sleep struggles, and heart palpitations are often viewed through the connection between the heart, mind, nervous system, and emotional balance. Instead of only asking, “How do I stop this feeling?” we can begin asking, “What is my body trying to tell me?”

When the heart feels unsettled, the mind can feel restless.

When sleep is disrupted, emotions can feel heavier.

When the nervous system is overstimulated, even small stressors can feel overwhelming.

This is where a whole-person approach matters.

At Heart to Heart Medical Center, Dr. Shiroko Sokitch helps patients look beyond symptoms and explore the deeper patterns that may be affecting their energy, mood, sleep, and sense of calm.

Healing begins when we stop fighting the message and start listening with compassion.

Save this reminder for the next time anxiety feels loud. Your body may be asking for support, balance, and deeper care.

For persistent anxiety, palpitations, chest discomfort, or sleep concerns, please seek medical evaluation.

Have you ever experienced anxiety, heart palpitations, poor sleep, or that feeling that your mind simply won't slow down?

What if those symptoms are not random?

In this powerful live discussion, Dr. Shiroko Sokitch explores how Chinese medicine views the relationship between the heart, emotional well-being, mental clarity, and the nervous system.

You'll learn why certain times of the year can affect how you feel, why your body may be asking for balance instead of fighting harder, and simple acupressure techniques that may help support calm and clarity.

Your body is always communicating. The question is: are we listening?

Watch the replay and discover a different way of understanding anxiety and palpitations.

Pain is not always just where it hurts.

When pain becomes chronic, it may involve more than one muscle, joint, or injury site. It may also involve inflammation, nervous system regulation, mood, memory, focus, and the body’s ability to recover.

In Chinese medicine, pain often points to stagnation. Something is not moving freely. In functional medicine, we also ask how inflammation is affecting the deeper pathways of the body.

This is why I believe in looking at the whole person.

Your body is not broken. Your body may be asking for movement, nourishment, and support.

Pain is not always just where it hurts. Sometimes it is your body asking for deeper support.

Have you ever had pain that felt like more than pain?

Maybe it started in one area of the body, but over time you also began to feel tired, foggy, emotionally depleted, or less able to enjoy the things that used to bring you peace.

This is why I love looking at pain through both Chinese medicine and functional medicine.

In Chinese medicine, pain often means something is not moving freely. Energy, circulation, nourishment, or communication may be stuck. From a functional medicine perspective, chronic inflammation may also affect the nervous system, mood pathways, memory, focus, and the body’s ability to recover.

So instead of only asking, “How do I stop this pain?” we can also ask, “What does my body need in order to move, regulate, nourish, and recover?”

Pain is not a personal failure. It is information.

If your body has been feeling stuck, I hope this replay helps you understand your symptoms with more compassion and clarity.

Your body is always speaking. PMS, perimenopause, mood shifts, bloating, headaches, and fatigue may be signs that your body is asking for deeper support, not judgment.

I created this blog to help you understand what these symptoms may be telling you through both Western medicine and Chinese medicine perspectives.
