To our Beloved Community of Yoga Students & Retreat Friends, Iโve been away from this space for a while to deepen my personal practice and continue learning - but today, I am reaching out in a moment of deep vulnerability. For those of you who have practiced with me, you know me as a dedicated and inspired movement teacher ~ whether through Yoga, Qigong, or the wellness retreats weโve shared together.
Four weeks ago, my reality was shattered: I sustained severe injuries to both of my knees that have left me completely disabled and immobilized. In a matter of days, my active, fiercely independent life was erased, and I am now entirely bedridden.
The brutality of this loss is hard to put into words. I am unable to stand up, walk, drive, or even perform the most basic daily tasks. I have lost access to the outdoors, my practice, and the life I love. I can no longer care for myself, prepare food for myself, shower or dress myself, or take care of my children, or my household. I now rely entirely on a wheelchair and outside help for everything required in daily life while I wait for surgery.
As fellow beings who value movement and ability of the physical body, you might imagine suddenly losing the stability and use of your legs. You realize instantly that you need them for absolutely every single thing in this world.
Throughout my life and career, my heart has always been in giving back. I have always been one to take initiative in lending a hand.
Whether it was sharing inspiration and wellness information freely, organizing donations for needy families in COVID era, collecting & delivering holiday gifts for kids, gathering emergency supplies for families in NC after huge hurricane, arranging coastal cleanups in the Keys, or leading childrenโs health marches locally, I have always found my purpose in being the one to help!
Now, in a sudden and devastating role reversal, I am the one who needs to be held and helped, as I unexpectedly find myself in the fight to get my mobility - and my life - back.
~ If my classes, retreats, or community work has ever touched your life, I am humbly asking for your support.
~ If you are able to contribute to my GoFundMe, share this post, or offer support, I would be profoundly grateful.
To those who have already donated - thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your generosity means everything in this dark season, and we wonโt ever forget it. ๐๐๐
