Fire ant swarms, wasp stings, chiggers, and ticks. August is their month. Every sting and every attachment site is a break in the barrier, and skin infections follow those breaks (Stevens et al., 2014). For most people that means a sore spot for a week. For people with diabetes or poor circulation, it can mean cellulitis and a wound that will not close. If a sting or bite site is spreading, draining, or warm to the touch, let a wound specialist look at it and call PAM Health Advanced Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center at (941) 342-1661.
