Kids Night Out is back, and this time it's happening Friday, September 18th!

This isn't just a night of games, it's a small-group evening program for elementary-aged kids, led by one of our licensed clinicians. While your child plays, connects, and builds real social-emotional skills, you get a well-deserved night off.

Here's what's included:
βœ… Small group atmosphere (4-10 kids per event)
βœ… Social-emotional learning focus
βœ… Facilitated by a licensed clinician
βœ… Light snack included

πŸ“… Friday, September 18th
πŸ•  5:30 - 8:00 PM

Early Bird pricing (register by Sept 11): $75/child
Standard Registration: $95/child
Sibling Discount: $15 off each additional child

We also have one fully funded scholarship spot available for a family experiencing financial hardship; reach out if that's you.

Spots are limited to 10 kids, so early registration is the best way to guarantee your child's place.

Email [email protected] or call (813) 395-9049 to register.

If you've been thinking about reaching out but keep putting it off β€” this one's for you. πŸ’™

Here's what getting started at Herrera Psychology actually looks like:

1️⃣ You reach out β€” a quick email or call is all it takes
2️⃣ We have a brief conversation with our intake coordinator to understand your child's needs and answer your questions
3️⃣ We match your child with the right therapist
4️⃣ You come in for an initial session β€” no pressure, no commitment to anything beyond that first meeting

That's it. You don't need to have a diagnosis. You don't need to be in crisis. You just need to feel like something could be better.

We're currently accepting new clients. πŸ’š

If you've been wondering about getting your child evaluated, here's what the process actually looks like at Herrera Psychology. No surprises. πŸ’š

1️⃣ Initial consultation β€” We talk with you about your concerns and what you're hoping to understand
2️⃣ Comprehensive testing β€” A series of age-appropriate activities that assess learning, attention, memory, and emotional functioning
3️⃣ Feedback session β€” We walk you through the results in plain language and answer every question
4️⃣ Written report β€” A detailed document you can share with your child's school to access accommodations and support

The whole process is designed to feel collaborative, not clinical. Your child is in a safe, supportive environment the whole time.

(Ida might even stop by to say hello. 🐾)

Back-to-school nerves are completely normal. πŸ’›

But sometimes what looks like nerves is something that deserves a closer look.

Here's what to watch for after the first week of school:

πŸ”Έ Anxiety that's getting worse, not better
πŸ”Έ Physical complaints (stomachaches, headaches) that only happen on school days
πŸ”Έ Significant changes in sleep or appetite
πŸ”Έ Pulling away from friends or activities they used to love
πŸ”Έ Emotional outbursts that feel out of proportion

You're not overreacting for noticing. You're paying attention β€” and that matters. 🌱

If something feels off, trust that instinct. We're here to help you sort through it.

Can we just say it? Back to school is a lot. πŸ’›

For parents, it's not just new backpacks and supply lists. It's worrying about whether your child will be okay. Whether they'll make friends. Whether last year's struggles will follow them into this one.

You're not failing if this season feels heavy.
You're not overreacting if something feels off.
You're not alone in any of it.

Showing up and paying attention β€” that's already doing so much. 🌱

We're here to walk alongside you. Reach out anytime.

"Is homeschool right for our family?" 🌱

It's one of the biggest questions parents ask us, and there's no one-size-fits-all answer. That's why we teamed up with The Music Compound in Sarasota for a Back to School event made just for homeschool families πŸ’š

Parents came together to:

1️⃣ Explore resources to help decide if homeschooling fits their family's needs
2️⃣ Ask real questions and get honest, judgment-free answers
3️⃣ Connect with other homeschool families in the community

Whether homeschool is a firm "yes," a "maybe," or a "not for us," we want every parent to feel confident in that decision, not alone in it.

Grateful for partners like The Music Compound who create space for families to learn and connect πŸ’™

We're here when you're ready to talk through what's next for your family.

Back to school is one of the most common times families reach out to us β€” and we want you to know: we have openings available right now. πŸ’š

Whether your child has been struggling for a while or you're just starting to notice something feels off, now is a great time to get support in place before the school year is in full swing.

We offer:
🌱 Individual therapy for children and teens (ages 2–22)
🌱 Psychoeducational evaluations and assessments (ex: gifted, autism, etc.)
🌱 Parent consultations
🌱 Access to Telement.ai for on-demand support between sessions (an AI service created by mental health professionals for high school and college aged children)

You don't have to have it all figured out to reach out. That's what we're here for.

The backpack is packed. The supplies are labeled. βœ…

But here are 5 things that matter even more before school starts:

1️⃣ Start shifting bedtime 15 minutes earlier each night this week
2️⃣ Do an emotional check-in β€” ask your child what they're excited about AND what they're nervous about
3️⃣ Drive by or visit the school so it feels familiar
4️⃣ Talk through the daily routine so there are no surprises
5️⃣ Let them know it's okay to feel nervous β€” and that you're always in their corner πŸ’›

Preparation isn't just logistical. Emotional readiness matters too. 🌱

Back to school is exciting β€” but for some kids, it can also bring up a lot of big feelings. πŸ’™

Before the first bell rings, here are 5 emotional signs to watch for in your child:

1️⃣ Increased clinginess or separation anxiety
2️⃣ Sleep disruptions or trouble falling asleep
3️⃣ Stomachaches or headaches with no clear cause
4️⃣ Irritability or emotional outbursts more than usual
5️⃣ Withdrawal from activities they normally enjoy

These signs can look different depending on your child's age β€” and they're more common than you might think.

If you're noticing a pattern, trust your gut. You know your child best. πŸ’š
