If your period has ever made you cancel plans, double up on protection "just in case," or wonder if what you're experiencing is even normal — I want you to know: abnormal bleeding is the most common reason women come see me, and there's almost always a clear, treatable reason behind it.
Two of the most frequent causes are uterine polyps and fibroids. Polyps are small growths on the lining of the uterus; fibroids are muscular growths in or around the uterine wall. Both can cause heavy, prolonged, or unpredictable periods — and both are things we can usually diagnose and treat in a single, simple office visit using a procedure called hysteroscopy. No operating room, no general anesthesia, no guessing.
You don't have to live around your period. If something feels off, it's worth a conversation.
Have you ever wondered if your bleeding was "too heavy" but weren't sure who to ask? Let's talk in the comments.
