The adult acquired flatfoot is a common deformity that affects one in four adults in the United States. The deformity may begin in childhood or be acquired with age. The foot may be flat at all times or the arch may fall when standing. The most common cause of flat foot deformity is Posterior Tibial Tendon Dysfunction (PTTD), in which the main tendon supporting the arch of the foot gradually weakens.
