Girl, why is no one telling women about this? 💛

Okay, can we talk about the part of surrogacy nobody puts on the brochure? The money. Because women deserve to know this exists.
1. Surrogates can earn $50–70K per journey. Yep, you read that right. First-time surrogates typically start in the $50K range, and experienced surrogates women who’ve carried before can earn up to $70K. That’s not a “thank you” gift card. That’s life-changing money.
2. This isn’t payment for a baby it’s compensation for a year of her life. Let me reframe that real quick. Surrogates go through screenings, medications, appointments, a full pregnancy, and recovery. The compensation reflects the time, the body, the commitment, and the gift. It’s not transactional it’s deeply earned.
3. Imagine what that money could do. Pay off the credit cards. Wipe out the car loan. Knock down student debt. Build the emergency fund you’ve been promising yourself. Start the Roth IRA. Put a down payment on a house. This is generational-shift money for a lot of women.
4. The women who do this aren’t “in it for the money” but the money matters. Every surrogate I’ve ever met did this because she wanted to help build a family. Full stop. But pretending the financial piece doesn’t matter is silly. It’s both. It can be both. Her generosity and her future both can win.
5. Ethical agencies make sure she’s protected, paid fairly, and supported. This is where Open Arms is different. If I could sit down with every baby born through surrogacy and tell them how they got here, this is what I’d say.
You wouldn’t believe the love that built you.

1. You were never an accident. You were a decision made over and over again, by a lot of people who refused to give up. Your parents kept showing up after every “no.” Your surrogate raised her hand and said yes, I’ll carry this for you. Doctors, lawyers, nurses, coordinators all of them said yes too. That’s not luck. That’s a village.
2. The word “impossible” got used a lot before you existed. Failed cycles. Hard diagnoses. Years of grief most people will never see. And somehow, every time the door closed, someone found a window. You are the proof that “impossible” is just a word we use until somebody figures it out.
3. There’s a woman who carried you who isn’t your mom and she loved you anyway. She felt your first kicks. She talked to you. She protected you for nine months knowing she was going to hand you over and that was always the plan. People who don’t understand surrogacy think that’s sad. It’s not. It’s one of the most generous things a human being can do, and she’d tell you she’d do it again.
4. Ethical surrogacy isn’t about “renting” anyone. I know you’ll hear that someday. Spare me. The way it’s supposed to work the way we do it at Open Arms is built on consent, real compensation, real medical care, real legal protection, and real relationships. Your surrogate wasn’t used. She was honored. Big difference.
5. You’re going to meet people who don’t get it. That’s okay. You don’t owe anyone an explanation for the way you came into this world. What you should know is this: you were wanted in a way most kids will never fully understand. Your story started with a whole bunch of grown-ups choosing love over easy.
You took a village, sweet baby. And every single one of us would do it all over again.
