Being born into a family
with strong son preference,
I grew up wishing I had been born a man.
I believed that if I were a man,
I would naturally receive more
attention, trust, and opportunities.
So when I first joined a women’s circle—
and even more so, a training program
to become a facilitator of a women’s circle—
I felt an unexpected wave
of emotion inside me.
A part of me that had once resisted being a woman so strongly was now learning how to hold space for women.
During these three days,
there were many moments of deep emotion and quiet inner movement.
Looking at many sisters around me
who were younger than I am,
already learning how to
take care of themselves,
express their feelings,
and build support systems,
I couldn’t help but wonder:
If I had started earlier,
would my life have taken a less winding path?
Since returning to Taiwan,
I’ve actually felt more uncertainty
than excitement.
And this women’s circle appeared at a time when I most needed support and companionship.
When I left three days later,
I didn’t leave with answers—
but with a deeper understanding.
Of women.
Of mothers.
Of relationships.
And of myself.
I’ve recorded this entire experience and what I’ve learned in a blog post.
If you’ve ever had to
work hard to prove yourself,
constantly taken care of others,
or are learning to rediscover
your own worth,
you might see a reflection
of yourself in this piece.
