Having an Advanced Directive in place is a gift you can give your loved ones. It gives those in charge of your healthcare peace. It’s a safe guard, not a take over of power. Though you have a power of attorney listed, they are not making decisions for you until it is officially activated.
Picking the person who would execute your wishes is an important component to your healthcare overlook. Yet, picking more than one person on your Advance Directive, a primary and secondary, who will be working with the doctors and nurses is also an option. It also allows a person to defer the decision if they don’t feel comfortable making the decision at the moment.

Watching these future healthcare heroes shine has been an absolute joy! Students from surrounding towns are completing their 99-hour CNA course through Madison College, balancing theory and hands-on clinicals at Maplewood Sauk Prairie.
It is incredibly inspiring to hear how many of these students have known since they were just 6 or 7 years old that they wanted to pursue a career in healthcare. That lifelong dedication, mixed with their pure eagerness to help others, truly shows when they interact with our residents at Maplewood. Watching them transition from practicing skills on lab mannequins to independently, compassionately caring for our residents is a beautiful thing to witness.
A huge thank you to Madison College and Nursing Instructor Debbie Lange for providing such amazing training, and to Maplewood for being the perfect backdrop for these clinicals! We are so proud of this hardworking group.
