On August 6th, Bill Mourufas, the Veteran's Career Advisor with Veterans' Employment Services, presented us with a Certificate of Appreciation and we are beyond humbled, grateful, and surprised by the recognition!

The Veteran's Employment Services takes pride in recognizing their Veterans and their families - Bill's success story is recognizing our 2 newest employees: Jamie Taylor and Adan Taylor!

"Jamie Taylor, a proud and devoted military spouse, came to case management on May 1, 2026, carrying not just a résumé, but a lifetime of service, sacrifice, and quiet strength. She wasn’t simply looking for a job, she was searching for a place where her compassion, her experience, and her heart could truly matter.

For more than 15 years, Jamie poured herself into her work as a certified Medical Assistant at MyMichigan Health. She became the steady hands and steady voice in Neurology, Dermatology, Pulmonology, and Cardiology—sometimes running entire departments on her own. Patients trusted her. Providers relied on her. Colleagues admired her. Jamie’s ability to carry so much, so well, reflected who she is at her core: deeply committed, endlessly adaptable, and always willing to give more of herself for the sake of others.

And beyond her career lies a story that few fully understand unless they’ve lived it. For 22 years, Jamie stood beside her husband through the demands of military life. She moved her family 10 times. She raised five children through deployments, uncertainty, and goodbyes that never got easier. She learned to rebuild her world again and again—each place, each challenge shaping her into a woman defined by resilience, courage, and love. These experiences weren’t just chapters of her life; they became her strength.

So, when financial cuts at MyMichigan Health left Jamie facing reduced hours and the painful reality of needing a new direction, she did what she’s always done: she faced it head-on. She turned to Michigan Works! Upper Peninsula, where Veterans’ Career Advisor Bill Mourufas listened, understood, and stood with her. Bill saw her potential immediately and guided her toward an opportunity with the American Legion for a Veteran Service Officer (VSO). Jamie prepared. She believed in herself. And she absolutely shined—earning the offer on the spot.

But life had an even more fitting path waiting.

Just two weeks later, Jamie was invited to interview with Prescription Oxygen Service for the role of Sleep Therapy Coordinator. From the moment she learned about the position, something clicked. It wasn’t just another job, it was a place where her medical experience, her administrative strengths, her compassion, and her love for patient care could truly come alive.
Prescription Oxygen Service, a long-standing and deeply trusted home medical equipment provider in the eastern Upper Peninsula, saw in Jamie what countless others have seen: a rare combination of heart and skill. Sara, General Manager of Prescription Oxygen Service, shared: "Jamie brings over two decades of medical experience to an already highly experienced staff with a combined 75 years in the home medical equipment field. In a highly competitive and regulated industry, Prescription Oxygen has held steadfast through many challenges that others were not as fortunate to survive. Through the ever-changing durable medical equipment industry, our business model has always been centered around quality patient care and service. Jamie brings that same dedication to patient care.”

With Bill’s guidance, Jamie took time to think deeply about her future, her family, her growth, her happiness. And she chose the path that felt right in her heart. She accepted the Sleep Therapy Coordinator role.
Since then, Jamie has said—many times—that she loves her new job. She lights up talking about working with patients. She thrives in a fast-paced environment. She feels inspired by how much there is to learn. And she is determined to grow, to master her role, and to become one of Prescription Oxygen’s best employees. Her joy is genuine. Her hope is renewed.

And her new workplace didn’t just welcome Jamie—they embraced her family, too. Her son, Adan, was also hired at Prescription Oxygen Service as a Delivery Technician. Sara recognized something special in him as well—his upbringing in a military household, his discipline, his integrity, his willingness to serve others. Today, Adan is on call 24/7, delivering critical durable medical equipment across the eastern Upper Peninsula. Mother and son, both serving their community, both thriving, both building new futures side by side.

Jamie’s story is more than a career success—it is a testament to perseverance, love, and the power of believing in yourself even when life forces you to start over. With the support of Michigan Works! Upper Peninsula and Veterans’ Employment Services, Jamie found not only a job, but a workplace that values her, a role that excites her, and a team that recognizes her worth.

Her journey reminds us all that with resilience, support, and a little faith, new beginnings can become beautiful chapters."
