A big week for cTIF in Savannah.

We had the privilege of welcoming eight gastroenterologists and surgeons from New York City; Cary and Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Atlanta, Georgia; Nashville, Tennessee; Des Moines, Iowa; and Cody, Wyoming for a THINK physician education program with Merit Medical at Memorial Health University Medical Center.

But this wasn’t just about learning a procedure.

Dr. Jonathan Kandiah and I wanted our visitors to see the entire process — patient selection, preoperative workup, the GI–surgeon partnership, hands-on TIF training, live case observation, and what it actually takes to build a successful cTIF program when they return home.

A procedure can be taught.

Building a program takes a team.

And we have an exceptional one in Savannah.

Thank you to our OR and robotics teams, anesthesia, endoscopy, clinic staff and everyone at Memorial who made a very busy couple of days look easy. And thank you to Merit Medical for bringing physicians from across the country to Savannah to learn alongside us.

Excited to see this one make it to the OR.

I had the opportunity to participate in product testing for Medtronic’s new ProGrip™ Advanced self-gripping polypropylene mesh, and this week I was able to use it clinically for the first time.

I have been a fan of self-gripping mesh for years, particularly in the retromuscular space. The challenge with large pieces of self-gripping mesh during robotic ventral hernia repair has always been handling and deployment in a confined space.

ProGrip Advanced was designed specifically with robotic ventral hernia repair in mind. A handling film on one side and the self-gripping surface on the other make a meaningful difference when introducing, positioning and deploying a large piece of mesh. The new design also incorporates a larger-pore hexagonal structure and greater elasticity.

My first impression in the OR was excellent. The mesh was easy to introduce and control, deployment was straightforward, and I was extremely pleased with the final lay.

One of the most rewarding parts of working with industry is having the opportunity to identify problems we encounter in the OR, participate in the testing process, and then see those ideas translate into a product we can actually use for our patients.

Congratulations to the Medtronic team on the launch of ProGrip Advanced. I’m grateful to have played a small role in the process and excited to finally put it to work.

Today we had the privilege of welcoming an outstanding team from OhioHealth to Savannah for our cTIF physician education program.

From the beginning, our goal was to build more than a successful clinical program. We wanted to create a reproducible model that could be shared with surgeons, gastroenterologists, and health systems looking to establish high-quality cTIF programs of their own.

Today’s discussions extended far beyond the operating room—patient selection, multidisciplinary collaboration, workflow, OR efficiency, postoperative care, and the countless lessons that come from building a program from the ground up.

Building a program worthy of teaching others takes far more than technical skill. It requires an exceptional team, a shared vision, and institutional support. Thank you to our nursing teams, anesthesia colleagues, endoscopy staff, operating room staff, and hospital leadership for helping make this program a destination for physician education.

We look forward to welcoming more teams from around the country as we continue expanding access to advanced reflux care.

We’re not just performing cTIF—we’re helping define how successful cTIF programs are built.
