Does anyone feel like this?
"Germany polished me in ways I am still discovering. It is nearly impossible to take yourself too seriously when the grammar feels backwards in your brain, the customs make little sense, and you spend your days physically running into people because you've spent your whole life existing on the opposite side of everything, hallway, sidewalk, shopping aisle, road. I think it was there that I developed my deep and abiding love for communication mishaps, the kind that are nobody's fault and everybody's problem. Even now, back in the States, I find obvious misunderstandings absolutely hilarious in a way that other Americans rarely seem to. Perhaps my years abroad broke something in my American communication language. If so, I have never once wanted it repaired."
