When everyone tells you how strong you are, you can start to believe that you have to carry everyone else’s needs, and that you can’t rely on others for help.

As Gabby Smith writes, “Let’s talk about what it means to be the strong one, the signs you may be carrying too much, and why even the strongest people need support.”

In honor of Pride Month, we want to highlight some information and resources regarding mental health and the LGBTQIA+ community.
This population is much more vulnerable to trauma and mental health needs, and the differences are staggering.

Help is available. Check out for national mental health resources, and for local Chambana resources.

For parents, having a child move out can be an extremely anxiety provoking transition. The issue then becomes the fact that this can also be very scary for your child.

As Erin Graham writes, “More than anything, your child needs to know that while you will miss them while they are gone, you know they are ready to tackle this next step in life. Now is the time to transition from parent to coach/cheerleader. “

But how do you do this while still managing your own grief and fear?

When something feels medically wrong, we are often told to go to the doctor to get it checked out. But what if you don’t feel heard when you’re at the doctor, or like your concerns are being taken seriously? You may be experiencing medical trauma.

As DeAnn Winn writes, “Medical trauma can cause a person to feel helpless and often hopeless. These emotions are certainly understandable. Taking care of your mental health and learning to advocate for yourself in the medical system can be empowering.”

Want to learn more about how you can help yourself feel heard and get the treatment you need and deserve? Check out DeAnn’s blog post at the link below
