Learning never stops! 📚✏️📖

Last Thursday, providers from all four Balance Centers locations came together for an in-house Spinal Cord Injury Lab focused on advancing clinical skills, sharing knowledge, and improving the care we provide to individuals living with SCI.

Through hands-on learning and case discussions, our team explored evidence-informed treatment approaches designed to better help patients living with a spinal cord injury.

We’re proud of the dedication our clinicians bring to continual growth and grateful for opportunities to learn from one another. We are grateful for the patients who shared their stories and experiences with us; we are better because of you.

One of the most important skills we can practice is knowing how to safely get up from the floor.

For individuals living with spinal cord injuries, floor recovery training can improve confidence and provide strategies for navigating unexpected situations.

Check these 2 rockstars 🎸🤘🏼 working and succeeding at their floor recovery transfers!

This was a blast! Take a look back at our ribbon cutting at our new Westbrook location with the city’s mayor David Morse.

We can’t wait to continue helping communities across Maine!

Repetition matters.

Check this out! A star patient is practicing curb negotiation, a key community mobility skill after spinal cord injury. Every repetition helps improve safety, confidence, and independence when navigating the world outside the clinic.

Bloopers are encouraged… you go girl!

SCI rehab, continuing education 🧠, and an unexpected visit with Abraham Lincoln? Sounds like a successful trip to DC.

Sarah recently traveled to Washington, DC to attend a spinal cord injury rehabilitation course hosted by at MedStar Rehabilitation Hospital.

The course focused on using fascia, body positioning, and motor development principles to create mechanical leverage and strength to help people living with spinal cord injuries improve mobility, independence, control, and confidence.

Beyond the incredible learning opportunities, Sarah connected with PTs, OTs, and clients from across the country, exchanged ideas, explored new treatment approaches, and even stopped to say hello to Abraham Lincoln before heading home.

We’re proud of our clinicians’ (go Sarah!) commitment to continuing education and bringing new knowledge back to the Balance Centers to better serve our community.

Back at it!

This year we are staying STRONG 💪 by sharing one exercise every week of the year.

Our goal is that these videos can give you ideas 💡 of different ways in which you can keep moving everyday, providing you with options for you to choose what best fits your preferences.

If you have an exercise in mind, help us build this exercise library by sharing in the comments!

Disclaimer: Exercise programs should be individualized. These exercises may not be appropriate for everyone. Perform at your own risk.

Saliency matters for neuroplasticity 🧠⛳

Meaningful, motivating tasks are important in stroke recovery. With summer here, check out this patient practicing his golf swing with Camden, our OT at the S**o location! ☀️
