🦴 DO CERVICAL BONE SPURS NEED TO BE SURGICALLY REMOVED?
Not necessarily.
A bone spur on an X-ray or MRI by itself doesn’t automatically mean you need surgery. The bigger questions are: What symptoms are you having? Is there significant nerve or spinal cord compression? And how is your cervical spine functioning?
When appropriate, conservative care may be considered before surgery. In my office, our focus with Upper Cervical Chiropractic is improving cervical mechanics and helping the areas of the neck that still move maintain the best function possible.
And if a segment ultimately does require fusion, that makes preserving healthy movement in the remaining cervical segments even more important.
Surgery can absolutely be necessary in certain cases—but it also carries risks and should be based on the individual diagnosis, neurological findings, symptoms, and appropriate specialist evaluation.
👉 Treat the patient—not just the X-ray.
