The base of your skull holds more tension than you think.

This is myofascial release at the suboccipital ridge - right where your skull meets your neck.

Client is prone, face cradled, fully relaxed. Working with the fascia that surrounds the suboccipital muscles - the small stabilizers that work overtime when you’re on your phone, at a desk, or grinding your jaw all day.

Sustained, low-load pressure here may support fascial glide and help ease the sensation of tightness that radiates up into the scalp and behind the eyes. Some clients report their neck ‘unlocking’ after a session like this.

This isn’t massage - it’s targeted myofascial work, done with intention.

That first-step-out-of-bed heel pain isn’t something you just have to live with.

Therapeutic laser therapy targets the plantar fascia directly - non-invasive, targeted, and part of a real recovery plan.

Shoulder tension that just won’t quit?

Bioptron Light Therapy uses polarized, incoherent light to help support your body’s natural repair processes — no heat, no needles, just light. Often used on the shoulders, neck, and upper back for:
✔️ May help support local circulation
✔️ May ease muscle tension and tightness
✔️ Promotes a sense of relaxation in the treated area
✔️ Gentle, non-invasive — sessions typically 10–20 min.

Some clients incorporate it as a calming add-on after deeper bodywork like MLD or myofascial release.

Graston Technique uses a stainless steel instrument to help detect and work through fascial adhesions and scar tissue that hands alone often can’t reach. May support:
✔️ Improved range of motion
✔️ Increased local blood flow
✔️ Relief in chronic overuse areas (tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, IT band)

Paired with vibratory therapy to prep the tissue — may help stimulate circulation and ease muscle guarding before deeper work.

Some clients report reduced tension and improved mobility after focused sessions on problem areas. Redness after Graston is a normal tissue response, not bruising from injury.

Red light works on surface tissue - skin, superficial muscle, local circulation. Infrared goes deeper, reaching muscle and fascia where a lot of low back tension actually lives. Then we add Bioptron - polarized, incoherent light - often used to calm the area post-treatment and support the skin’s natural recovery response.

Together, they may support reduced stiffness, improved local circulation, and a calmer nervous system response - without deep pressure on an already-guarded area.

Kinesiotape isn’t just for sports injuries — it’s one of my favorite tools for supporting lymphatic drainage 💛

Here’s how it works: the tape gently lifts the skin, creating space between it and the tissue underneath. That space reduces pressure on the lymphatic vessels and helps fluid move more freely — especially helpful after MLD sessions, post-surgical swelling, or facial puffiness.

✨ What I use it for:

• Extending the effects of an in-office lymphatic drainage session
• Reducing swelling after facial or body procedures
• Supporting clients through postpartum fluid retention
• Encouraging proper drainage patterns between sessions

The application pattern matters — fan strips, anchor points, and tension all change depending on the area and the goal. This isn’t a “slap it on anywhere” technique.

If you’re recovering from a procedure or dealing with chronic puffiness, ask your practitioner if taping could support your results. 💛

Working through restricted tissue layers. This is often the missing piece for chronic neck/shoulder tension that stretching alone won’t fix.

Manual therapy is far more than applying pressure to muscles and soft tissues. True therapeutic results require a deep understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics.
Every muscle, fascia layer, lymphatic vessel, nerve, and joint has a specific function and relationship to surrounding structures. Understanding these connections allows a practitioner to:
✔️ Identify the true source of pain and dysfunction
✔️ Apply techniques safely and effectively
✔️ Avoid sensitive anatomical structures such as nerves and blood vessels
✔️ Improve movement patterns and posture
✔️ Support proper lymphatic flow and tissue healing
✔️ Create individualized treatment plans based on each client’s unique needs
Whether performing myofascial release, lymphatic drainage, buccal massage, craniosacral therapy, or therapeutic bodywork, anatomical knowledge guides every decision made during treatment.
This is why advanced training and clinical education matter. A practitioner with a strong foundation in anatomy understands not only where to work—but why they are working there and how it affects the body as a whole.
At Vertebra Health Institute, every treatment is performed with a science-based approach that respects the complexity of the human body and supports optimal wellness.
