This Memorial Day, SWL remembers that freedom comes at a very heavy price. We pray for peace and comfort for the families who will mourn Monday rather than celebrate. I think about our 3 Alabama soldiers who will not be coming home. 6 selfless souls who gave all in a foreign land. They were members of my son’s air wing. Last year, they laughed with their families. Maybe they grilled, spent the day on the boat, or had grandmas pie with homemade ice cream. I can tell you as a military mom I fear the weight of a folded flag. I cannot imagine the heaviness this day will bring for so many. While we fill the long weekend with fun and laughter, others will long for a light snuffed out far too soon. Words are never enough to express how eternally grateful we are to those who gave all. I’m proud to be an American, I’m proud to be from small town Alabama, and I burst with pride knowing my son has stood up to defend our liberties. God Bless America. Land of the Free Because of the Brave.
