You're not doing it wrong. Teens pull away, and it still hurts every single time.

You ask how they're really doing, and you get a shrug, an "I'm fine," and the door clicking shut. And you're just standing there like, what happened to the kid who used to tell me everything?

Here's the thing though, the pulling away is kind of the point. They're figuring out who they are apart from you, and a little distance is part of that. It doesn't mean you lost them. It doesn't mean you messed up.

But knowing that doesn't make it hurt less. You can get all of it and still lie awake wondering if they're okay, still miss them while they're right down the hall.

Sometimes what helps isn't finding the perfect thing to say. It's having someone help your teen feel safe enough to actually open up. We work with teens and families all over Arizona, in Scottsdale, Tempe, or anywhere in the state virtually. You can book a free consultation through the link in our bio.

What's one thing you wish your teen knew you understood?

Most people picture something weirder than what EMDR actually is. The eye movement part gets all the attention, but what's really happening is your brain finally processing a memory it never got to file away. The moment that stops running the show, everyday life gets a lot quieter.

If the past still feels close, EMDR is one of the most proven ways to work through it.If the past still feels close, EMDR is one of the most proven ways to work through it. We offer EMDR and trauma therapy in Scottsdale, Tempe, and across Arizona. Visit wisercenter.org or the link in bio to book a consultation.

Nobody warns you about this part. Everyone talks about the big fights, the blowups, the dramatic stuff. Not many people talk about the slow drift, the kind where nothing's really wrong but somewhere along the way you stopped reaching for each other the way you used to.

You're still kind. You still split the chores, handle the kids, ask about each other's day. But it's started to feel more like running a household together than actually being in it together. And you both feel it, even if neither of you has said it out loud.

The quiet isn't a sign that the love's gone. Usually it's a sign that life got busy and the connection got put last, again and again, until the distance just became the normal you live in. The good news is that drift like this isn't permanent. Couples find their way back to each other all the time, they just usually need a little help learning how.

If you miss your person while they're sitting right next to you, that's worth paying attention to. We work with couples across Arizona, in Scottsdale, Tempe, or virtually anywhere in the state. You can book a free consultation through the link in our bio.

When's the last time you really talked, about something other than logistics?

07/08/2026

Halfway through the year, and if the honest answer to "how are things" is still complicated, that's okay.

There's this quiet pressure around the midpoint, like you were supposed to have it more figured out by now. Like everyone else sorted themselves out in January and you're still sitting with the same worries you had six months ago.

But change doesn't follow the calendar. The real shifts tend to happen slowly, quietly, in a way you don't notice until you look back later and realize you're not where you used to be.

So if you're still in it, still carrying something you hoped would feel lighter by now, that doesn't mean you failed the year. It just means you're human, and some things take longer than a few months.

And you don't have to move through it alone. It's the kind of thing we work on with people all over Arizona, in Scottsdale, Tempe, or virtually anywhere in the state. You can book a free consultation through the link in our bio.

What's one thing you're being too hard on yourself about right now?

07/06/2026

You already know the breathing exercises. You've read the threads. You can explain your anxiety better than most people could.

And it still shows up anyway.

That's the part nobody warns you about, that understanding why you're anxious and actually feeling calm are two completely separate skills. One lives in your head. The other one your body has to learn.

That's the work we do in anxiety therapy, helping your nervous system catch up to what your mind already knows. Our team offers anxiety treatment in Scottsdale, Tempe, and across Arizona. Visit wisercenter.org or the link in bio to book a consultation.

Meet Ally Marcus, LCSW.

She knows what it feels like to leave everything familiar behind and start over somewhere new. To choose growth before you feel ready. To sit with the uncertainty of not knowing how things will turn out and do it anyway.

That's not just her story. It's the story of a lot of the people she works with.

Ally works with children, teens, young adults, adults, and couples navigating anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, life transitions, and those quieter struggles that are hard to name but impossible to ignore. She brings nine years of experience, including eight years working within Chicago Public Schools, so she understands how challenges show up differently at every stage of life.

Her style is warm and collaborative, but she won't just listen and nod. She'll offer honest feedback and practical tools because she believes real growth needs both safety and a gentle push.

Ally is now accepting new clients at our Scottsdale location, with openings for children and teens.

If something feels off even when life looks fine on the outside, that's worth paying attention to.

Meet Mallory Rigby, LPC.

She knows what it's like to move through life feeling just a little out of step with everyone around you. To be functional, capable, even high-achieving while quietly wondering why everything takes so much more effort than it seems to for other people.

A late ADHD diagnosis changed the way she understood her own story. So did a stage 4 cancer diagnosis at a point in her life when nothing was supposed to go that way.

Both of those experiences shaped the kind of therapist she became. Someone who understands that healing isn't about becoming a different person. It's about understanding yourself well enough to stop working against who you already are.

Mallory works with adults navigating trauma, anxiety, ADHD, depression, grief, and life transitions. She's a Certified EMDR Therapist, a distinction that goes beyond basic training and reflects serious clinical investment in trauma work.

She's now accepting new clients at our Tempe location.

If you've been feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or like you've spent too long trying to figure yourself out alone, this might be the right fit.

At every family thing, you've got a job nobody actually gave you.

You read the room before you walk in. You catch the tension before it turns into anything. You smooth stuff over, keep the day moving, and most of it happens without anyone noticing you're doing it at all.

And it probably didn't start at these gatherings. It usually goes back to a house where staying tuned in to everyone's mood was how you kept things calm and kept yourself okay. It worked back then. It got you through. The thing is, the job never really ended.

It's hard to catch from the inside, because it doesn't feel like a pattern. It just feels like being responsible. Being you. It usually takes someone outside of it to help you see what you've been carrying, and what it'd look like to set some of it down.

If this is hitting close, it's what we do, with people all over Arizona, in Scottsdale, Tempe, or virtually anywhere in the state. You can book a free consultation through the link in our bio.

So when did you become the one who holds it all together?

07/01/2026

There's a specific kind of tired that doesn't come from doing too much. It comes from never fully stopping, even when nothing is technically happening.

You clear your schedule. You make space. And then you spend that space running laps in your own head, planning, rehearsing, catching problems before they exist. The rest is right there in front of you and you can't seem to reach it.

It's not that you don't want to slow down. Your nervous system has just been running at this speed so long that stillness reads as something to be suspicious of. So it fills the quiet with noise, because the noise is familiar and the quiet isn't.

For a lot of high-functioning people, this is the part that doesn't fix itself with one good weekend or a better morning routine. The body learns to feel safe at rest the same way it learned to stay on alert, slowly, and usually with some help.

If the empty hours are the hardest part of your week, that's worth paying attention to. We work with people across Arizona on exactly this, in person in Scottsdale and Tempe or virtually anywhere in the state. You can book a free consultation in the link in bio.
