Every once in a while, I watch a documentary and feel hopeful. The Plastic Detox was one of those for me.
This is a topic I’ve been passionate about for years. As a naturopathic doctor, I’ve spent countless hours educating patients about environmental toxins, plastics, and the ways they may impact our health. Seeing this conversation finally reaching a broader audience was incredibly meaningful. My heart was pounding, and I even found myself tearing up.
Some of the most heartbreaking challenges I see are infertility, reproductive concerns, and cancer. While there is rarely one single cause, we can’t ignore the growing research on how everyday chemical exposures may influence our health over time.
The good news is that we don’t have to do everything perfectly. We can’t eliminate every exposure, but we can make informed choices. Using glass instead of plastic when practical, avoiding heating food in plastic containers, and reducing single-use plastics are all small steps that can make a difference.
In my practice, I also offer specialty testing that measures environmental chemicals, including BPA, phthalates, and other compounds. The results can help guide a more personalized approach to reducing exposures when appropriate.
Helping people understand what may be standing in the way of their health is one of the most fulfilling parts of what I do. Education is empowering, and I hope conversations like this continue to grow.
If you’ve watched The Plastic Detox, I’d love to hear what resonated with you most.
