Getting diagnosed as neurodivergent is kind of like finding the right size of clothes. It's there to be a guide for you. It's not there to be a definitive answer for everything.
So when I go to the store and I go shopping, I know a general idea of my size for certain clothing, but a lot is going to depend on the brand and the type of item and if it's meant to be loose or tight or whatever it is, right?
And that's the same thing with these diagnoses. It's meant to be a guide to give you a starting point, but that doesn't mean it gives you the magic key or the answer to everything about you.
So when I go to the store and I go shopping, I know I'm probably not going to be a size two. That's just not the reality for me. So I don't look at a size two. I know to look for around my size, but I also try one size smaller and one size larger because the reality is, I don't know how it's going to fit my body. I have to try it on and see how it fits and feels.
It's the same thing with a diagnosis. You can get a diagnosis of ADHD or autism, and that can give you a lot of really good information, but that doesn't mean it's everything. You still need to learn who you are as an individual and see what fits you.
That's where therapy comes in. Therapy helps you find what will fit you best as a human, not just a diagnosis.
