We weren’t always in a great place.. even when we got engaged

Of course I knew I wanted to be with this person, but we were still really struggling in some areas

So right after we got back from the proposal, we went to church: April 2025. We tried it b/c so many of y’all recommended it!

I knew that actually going would either make or break for it me- I wouldn’t go for almost 3 decades

We happened to hear a 2-part sermon at Scottsdale Bible Church | AZ on the husband + wife’s role in marriage. And it landed so hard for me. And Oto. So we agreed to come back the following week for part 2- and now we are still going (and loving it!)

➡️ Oto & I joined ReEngaged last year, and it changed our relationship into the best it’s ever been- truly. (And yes, we both still drive each nuts sometimes)

MUCH more patient, kind, considerate, stable, and better communication!! 7 years of therapy was great, but it is something totally different to be in a group with so many other couples sharing- the real stuff, not the “church-approved” stuff

I held nothing back. Maybe to test them to see if I’d feel judged. But I haven’t- and I said some wild (but true) things. Only to be met with compassion + support

Our way wasn’t working. I surrendered how it all would work out. We both did in our own ways, and decided to create a Christ-centered relationship.. Individually, and with each other. Vertically, and horizontally, as many say.

I know church hurt is real. Or questions like, “If God were real, why would he let x happen?” I asked all the same questions myself. I asked every question I could think of when at church groups.

I used to go to Catholic school, Sunday School/CCD, altar girl at mass, and full-blown athiest. But that changed for me around 28, and my faith has absolutely strengthened over the last year. It kept me strong in a year of uncertainty regarding my lymph nodes/breast/BIRADS 5

I don’t have conditional love for others because you do or don’t believe what I believe. I found my path to the Lord at 37/38, so I understand someone not believing. That was me.

What are your thoughts on this? Are you also a follower of Christ? ❤️

🤠 GO ASK YOUR MAN:

Am I endlessly entertaining or emotionally draining?

I’d say it’s about finding the right match for you. I used to try to force or ‘make things work’- fitting a square peg in a round hole

9 years later, we have cultivated a healthier, more fun, more loving and patient, and overall, in a better place!
I used to think relationships were only good in the beginning

CELEBRATING OUR 9 YEAR ANNIVERSARY!! 🎉

If you asked me a decade ago, I would’ve told you I didn’t want to get married. Simply because I thought it was for other people, but not for me.

But then you meet someone who brings out a version of you that brings more joy, expansion, connection, and a life you WANT to create together- then everything changes.

Did I try to self-sabotage out of fear? Sure did. But I’ve been met with consistency and presence, and over the years, I’ve healed from so many of those old patterns.

There isn’t a doubt in my mind that is the person I want to spend my life with. When we can both confidently say our lives are better because of having each other in it, it’s the best thing ever.

We are engaged and plan to do our vow ceremony next year (TBD based on the location).

I’m so excited to bring our friends and family together for a small celebration for the commitment and covenant we are making with each other, and with the Lord.

I was NOT the girl who had a vision board on Pinterest for some grand wedding day, dress, ring, none of it. With that said, I do think there is something special about sharing our vows with those we love present.

I’m grateful I didn’t go through the motions of getting married at the “right age”, because I wouldn’t have done it for the right reasons. I trust the timeline for my life and have surrendered so much to God’s timing over mine 🙌🏼

Celebrating another year together and many more to come! I can honestly say we are in the best place we have ever been.

And yes, many rough patches. But the hard times show you a lot about how you treat one another. I’m so grateful for it all. I had doubts and fears, but it is scary to fully open your heart. And for the right person, it’s worth it ❤️❤️

I pray we continue to laugh hard, adventure often, get stronger and have a great quality of life, continue to grow our family (little Leo joining soon!), work through the inevitable challenges, and love, respect & support each other for the rest of our lives 💍🙏🏼❤️

A DEAL IS A DEAL 😂

We all have our vices. I sure do. But late night snacking is Oto’s biggest vice. He asked me for help. I said sure 😉

We decided to do a challenge x1 week- no snacking before bed. We go to bed early, so it’s definitely doable.

He got 4 days into the 7 total, and caved.

As it turns out, the press-ons actually made it really difficult for him to eat at night. He did snack on some watermelon using a fork (vs. his usual type of snack, a bit more filling, that will keep resting heart rate higher overnight while digesting food)

It’s all funny, but the moment where he speaks about his CONUNDRUM, I about lost it with laughter 😂😂😂

Yes, I’m a nurse. Yes, I’ve wiped thousands of butts. But you’re on your own this time, Oto 😬❤️

And before the Free Oto community comes out the woodwork, we BOTH love to joke/prank/roast each other. Maybe that doesn’t work for you, but it’s all in good fun. He had the ability to not wear the press-ons. But he’s a good sport!!

So hopefully this brought as much joy and laughter to you as it does for us (and those who saw him at the gym that day)

What is a dare or challenge for either of us to try next? Let’s get weird 😂

🚨 I had to take a step back from what I thought was a medical freedom community

It wasn’t. It’s anti-vax, anti-pharmaceutical. And honestly, I get it. I wouldn’t choose many conventional screenings, tests, or interventions

But I have NEVER said these things can’t be an option, for myself or for others

Example: I’m not for SSRIs. AND I’m also not here to judge someone who finds it helps them. I would be against SSRI mandates, but not against your choice to use it

👉🏼 FREEDOM means freedom to say NO to what isn’t for you, and to say YES to what is for you

We need to learn to weigh the pros & cons (ideally with a provider who gives you TRUE informed consent), and begin to trust ourselves and make intentional decisions for our lives

You are free to make choices for your health and life… that others don’t understand

I did have to live like bubble girl when I had severe MTBE poisoning (environmental) and adrenal insufficiency (night shift for years)

The vitriol is toxic. Maybe even more than some pharmaceuticals. A bitter, judgmental, know it all attitude isn’t helping. And I can say that, b/c that was me before I was a nurse 🙈

The reality is that a healthy system CAN tolerate occasional stressors

Stress + Recovery = How we cultivate resilience.
Choose wisely and know how “full” your bucket is and decide from that place

So I am here to support you in YOUR AUTONOMY. Not to make you think what I think or do what I do. Not to convince you to do or not do anything

Personally, I’m about 95% “crunchy” and 5% conventional. And I started apologizing for the 5%. How about no. I value quality of life too, so maybe something that isn’t “a perfect choice” is the right one for me

Here’s one example ⬇️

I had a breast “cancer” scare: No mammogram. No chemo. No radiation. No biopsy. No MRI w/contrast. I chose to watch it and do serial surveillance. Then I’d CONSIDER other options, but I would treat alternatively first

Do they understand or agree? Sure don’t. But it’s quite literally, my life

I can say no to options and decide to change my mind later

It isn’t a contest to see who can flex hardest because of their choices or a reason to look down on others 🤷🏼‍♀️

WELCOME TO THE FAM, BABY LEO 🥰

Leonardo Gomes aka Leo Gomes :)

We got to meet our new family member last night on his 6 week birthday! 🎉

I watch them daily from the camera (since 3.5 weeks), and see how they all have grown and developed. It’s been such an amazing experience to see how they are cared for before he comes home with us!

When I got there, I was like- wait those are the puppies?! Because I just couldn’t believe how teeny they all were (in general, at this age). And they grow SO fast! It’s exponential in the beginning! Mama is 60 lbs and daddy is 80 lbs, so Leo will probably be a big boy 🙏🏼

He is a yellow lab/English cream lab mix. I had a black lab in college named Theodore (aka Theo), so Leonardo (aka Leo) is what we are naming our yellow lab. Leo Gomes- solid name, love it ❤️

➡️ We are open to any loving tips and favorites that will help Leo have the best life!

🔔 Labs are easy to train, but we definitely want to teach him to use a button or bell to let us know he wants to go outside.

So I’m going to go watch this on repeat for the next 2 weeks, because he isn’t quite ready to come home just yet! My actual heart is exploding. In the best way.

We wanted a lab too because they’re amazing with kids, and it’s good parenting practice for us. First we were two, now we will be 3. And more to come :)

I hope this brought a little bit of joy to your life today ❤️

SILENT SIT: POWERFUL CHALLENGE

Why do this? & I LOVE all the tools & supplements that can help support my body and improve my quality of life

With that said, I'm soo guilty of being on 24/7. Going to the bathroom with my phone. Checking it first thing. Scrolling while watching TV. You may be familiar with some of this yourself 😉

I saw .me was doing a Silent Sit and I couldn't make it- but everything inside me was like "that sounds 10x more challenging than strength training". And was so happy my schedule didn't work for it

BUT LET'S KEEP IT REAL! The things that often help us are the things we avoid. For me, it's definitely slowing down. So 1 knew I needed to go for it!

❤️ Breaks the constant stimulation cycle from phones, music, podcasts, and notifications. A must-have for almost all of us

❤️ Calms your nervous system and can help reduce feelings of stress and overwhelm. I did feel anxious before starting, but 10 min in, I felt peace!

❤️ Increases self-awareness by helping you notice your thoughts, emotions, and habits...without reacting right away

❤️ Builds emotional resilience by practicing how to sit with discomfort instead of immediately escaping it. I really think this is underprioritized in our society

❤️ Improves focus by training your brain to stay with one thing instead of jumping from thought to thought. Major area to improve. Shout out to my ADHD pals 👋

❤️ Boosts creativity because your brain has time to make new connections and ideas. You could keep a journal to brain dump, but I didn't this time

❤️ Strengthens mindfulness and gratitude by bringing your attention back to the present moment. I found myself redirecting A LOT!

❤️ Helps you become more comfortable being alone with your own thoughts, which can build confidence & inner peace over time. It's a practice, but so necessary!

And it's free!! During meditation, I will listen to something. Some do silent meditation, but I was nervous I'd just fall asleep. So my goal was to stay awake and survive 30 min ⏰

Happy to report, I see myself doing this regularly. I think I stuck it out I filmed myself- but hey, whatever works 🤷🏼‍♀️

Is this something you have tried, or are willing to try? What was your experience, if so? ⬇️

If your workout looks like this… we’ve all been there half-assing it 😂

They’re half assing it with full asses, but bless a surgeon. No, I don’t think those are natural glutes. Or even natural looking. But as always, it’s always their choice to make!

💪🏻 Let’s grow those glutes, but not create collateral damage in the process due to poor form and going through the motions.

The goal isn’t to look like you’re exercising.
The goal is to give your body a reason to adapt.

A few quality sets will always beat 60 minutes of going through the motions.

Form is key. I’ve been strength training for almost 25 years now, and I still like to get feedback on form and minor adjustments I can make.

The form we take now can make a difference how our knees and back do later in life.

We love to workout together. Helps us bond, share a passion for looking and feeling good, support our future self, inspire and teach our future kids, and live our best quality of life!
