There’s something beautiful about watching the sunrise after a day of sacred rest, feeling grateful, restored, and ready for another week.
For nearly three years, I’ve observed Shabbat, the Jewish sacred day of rest, from Friday sundown through Saturday nightfall. It’s one of the most meaningful things I’ve ever done for myself.
After years of working weekends, teaching classes, hosting events, and always finding something productive to do, learning to completely stop has changed my life.
No work, chores, driving, shopping, phones, emails, or social media.
Friday evenings begin with candles, blessings, prayer, and a beautiful meal. Saturday is for meditation, nature, our animals, time together, and sometimes doing absolutely nothing.
My weekends feel longer, I actually feel rested, and Sunday is free for adventures!
I love my work and the purpose it brings, but Shabbat has taught me to enjoy life beyond what I accomplish. It’s also deepened my connection to Creator. This weekly return to prayer, peace, and love has become an anchor in my life.
As we enter the lunar cycle of Cheshvan, following the spiritually powerful High Holy Days, I’m in a season of integration. Reflecting on what I’ve learned, putting prayer and spiritual accounting into action, and making space for what comes next.
This feels especially meaningful as Butch Williams | Moshé Binyamin and I prepare to open membership at Temple of Remembering After many months of mindful, diligent work behind the scenes, we’re excited to begin sharing more of what we’ve been creating. It’s been a lesson in patience, trust, and allowing things to unfold.
One of my favorite Shabbat traditions is welcoming friends and family into our home for Friday night dinners. Good food, laughter, meaningful conversations, and connection. There’s something truly special about sharing this with others.
I wish everyone could experience the beauty of a sacred day of rest, regardless of faith or spiritual background.
A little less doing. A lot more being.
Shavua Tov. Wishing everyone a beautiful week ahead. 🤍
What would a full day of rest, without distractions or obligations, look like for you?
