Many patients come to AZCCPP after years of trying to understand their pelvic pain.

They have often seen multiple providers and have been told different things, but their symptoms still do not fully make sense.

Our practice is different because we focus specifically on complex pelvic pain, including conditions that can involve the nerves, pelvic floor, endometriosis, prior surgery, mesh complications, and overlapping symptoms.

One thing I try to make clear to every patient is that treatment decisions should be made together.

Patients with chronic pelvic pain are often dealing with complex symptoms, and they deserve time to ask questions, understand their options, and feel comfortable with the plan.

Many of the patients I see have experienced some version of this pattern.

A treatment helps for a period of time, but the pain eventually returns. This does not always mean the treatment was wrong. In complex pelvic pain, there may be more than one contributing factor involved.

Muscle tension, nerve irritation, endometriosis, scar tissue, prior surgery, bladder symptoms, or bowel symptoms can all overlap.

When symptoms keep coming back, it is important to step back and ask what may still be contributing to the pain.

In certain cases, these patterns may be consistent with pudendal neuralgia, a condition involving irritation or compression of the pudendal nerve.

Because symptoms can overlap with other conditions and are not always visible on imaging, it may not be identified early.

Recognizing these patterns is an important step in determining whether nerve involvement is contributing and how to approach treatment more effectively.
